Why didn't anyone tell Anakin that he was the Chosen One?

It seems like Obi-Wan was the only one who ever mentioned it to him right at the very end. Maybe if they told him he was the Chosen One then he would have been more humble and respect the Jedi order more...

1. I never got the impression that he wasn't told. I think he was -- even if it didn't happen "on screen".

2. I'm not following your logic. How is telling someone that they are the Chosen One supposed to make them humble? Wouldn't it usually have the opposite effect?

The Council probably never told him at all (my theory). They were probably afraid he'd get even more arrogant and resentful that he didn't have the kind of powers he craved, or the kind of powers the Chosen One should have. They were afraid of his powers and didn't want any kind of threat to their authority (just as Palpatine said). I think they kept it a secret to the very end, when Obi-Wan just completely gave up on him and realized that there's no turning back now...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just sensed that Anakin's inner conflict would have been quelled had he known that in time he would become the greatest of all Jedi. When Palpatine asked him to be his representative, Anakin was humbled to learn he'd become a Master....Imagine what telling him that he's the 'Chosen One' could have done...The Jedi didn't give a shit about Anakin and basically ignored all of his problems. Yoda just kept telling him to suppress his emotions and everything would be okey-dokey...which was the wrong advice, and proved fatal for the Jedi in the end. Palpatine was the only one who supported Anakin all the way (albeit for dubious reasons)...

Interesting point... I guess I always assumed he knew, but maybe he didn't.

Anyway, I definitely agree that the Jedi made a bunch of mistakes. That's one of the great things about the prequels -- the Jedi don't come away smelling sweet. The collapse of the Order was in many ways due to their own issues.

I wasn't aware that he didn't know. But from what I can take it, the guy was a real smart ass and really tossing it in everyone's face about how his fighting rivals master yoda's (Attack of the clones) and how he's more than ready to be a master and so forth.

The dude had an ego. If he wasn't told about the whole choosen one thing, imagine how much of an ego booster that would have been?

I don't think so. I will take real life experiences as an example. In my job, I've seen people come in and do great work, and then suddenly somebody, usually another manager, but it can be other employees, will fill this employee's head with ideas that they can be a manager. Time and time again, I've seen them start acting conceited and just become total assholes, and usually act in ways that get their asses fired not too soon after that. Maybe not in every situation, as people's personalities are different, but I think that in a case like Anakin, it was wise for them to hold that information from him. They wanted to see if he could pass the tests, so to say. If they told him that earlier, I think his move to the Dark Side would have been quicker.

You know I always assumed Anakin knew, never thought for a second he didn't. I mean in episode I didn't Qui-Gon straight up say it in front of him? But he was a kid then, in a new place with grown ups talking about him like a piece of meat, he was too confused and scared to connect the dots and simply forgot about it over time. But thinking about it now, it makes sense for him not to know, I mean he would have become more arrogant then any jedi before him, knowing he was destined to destroy the sith, talk about bragging rights. Food for thought when watching episode III over again.

Do I think if he had been told things would have gone better? Hell no, he would have done something stupid that he was nowhere near prepared for and either gotten killed or so shell shocked he never amounted to anything.
