1366x768, what's up with this LCD TV resolution?

I am looking at getting an LCD TV in the next few weeks, but many have this strange resolution (which I believe is 768p). Now this TV doesn't have a native NTSC standard. Am I correct in assuming that the TV will scale a 720p signal?

Don't you know that's the best resolution?! Let me guess, a Sony product, right? They often use this res, they just can't play well with others.

Yes, with that res it will scale any input except a PC tuned precisely to it.

Sharp uses that resolution as well. I imagine they are getting their screens from the same source, and that res has become the norm.

It probably just stems from the PC world. I think that is W-XGA resolution, but I can never keep those all straight. Whichever 1024x768 is, XGA/SVGA/etc., you stick a W in front and that's 1366x768.

It's XVGA.

But no, it's not a Sony, it's another brand, but I've seen several with it. BTW, the Grand Wega is 702p native.

It's not just Sony. The Panasonic LCD I've just ordered is also 1366 x 768

Are you saying an LCD with this resolution won't work well with a PC such as a media center PC?

Spiky can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he's saying the exact opposite, that ONLY a PC will be able to display at the unit's native resolution.
