Best and Worst Videogame endings (possible spoilers within)
1up has a story on their favorite and least favorite game endings so I thought I'd ask the same to this group. Use spoiler tags if you don't want to ruin stuff for everyone else.
My favorites:
- ICO: This game always comes up but the end of this game was really cool and eloquent. (highlight for more) After Yorda is killed you set her body on a ship and float it off to sea. An epic fight with the witch queen ensues and teh palace starts to fall apart. After the credits finish you wake up on a deserted beach and run around until you find Yorda's body. Alive or not? Very cool and understated.
- FFVIII: The ending wasn't necessarily cool but the last fight was freaking awesome mainly because Leon's final limit break was so amazing to watch (Lionheart I think it was called)
- Abe's Oddysey: Great game and a really pulse pounding getaway ending. The CG was amazing of course and the Mukodons were really likable characters.
Least faves:
- One: This PS1 game didn't explain anything at the end and was soooo freakin hard that it made you want to tear your hair out!
- Tekken 3: All the endings were so freakin lame and confused the story even more. The only one that was even mildly amusing was the ending for Panda.

I really enjoyed Super Mario Brothers for the SNES back in the day. That game had 100+ levels and offered many varied environments. at the end of the game there is some lame thing about the princess, but I liked the "recap" of showing all the areas you explored as well as all the different bad guys. I'm not sure why, perhaps because the game took me so much effort to beat back then, but that memory sticks with me.
On the flip side, I was really disappointed with pretty much any metroid game ending, as well as Fable, what a waste... MGS2 as well.

Add my voice to the choruse of MGS2 hate. Not only was the very last boss "teh lame1!!111!!!" but the ending was just nonsensical.
However I did enjoy the uber stupid Tekken 3 endings. They rarely made any sense, but I still liked them.
Depending on how you look at it I really enjoyed or hated the Beyond Good and Evil ending. I thought the ending was (everything from the last hour bringing tension to a head to the actual ending) was really done, but obviously there aren't any plans to continue what was a cliff hanger ending...so I hate that aspect of it.
Hated the ending of Halo 1 and from what I've read I will probably hate the ending to part 2 (whenever I get to it).
The ending for X-Men Legends (while well done) fealt a bit sparse for all the work I put in to get there.

I love the endings to Mafia and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
I hate cliffhanger endings like in Beyond Good & Evil and Psi Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. I loved those 2 games but the endings sucked.

So what happened at the end of KOTOR? I don't have an XBOX and doubt I'll ever play it. Spoiler tag it for those that don't want to know.

theres lots of endings possible for KOTOR. Theres a big spoiler about the main characters identity about half way through. If you havent gotten that far, you should. The rest of the game will compell you to finish it.

Best : Jade Empire, it outdid KOTOR in this department, the ending was just super evil should you go that route.
Worst: Last game I beat was Legend of Legaia Duel Saga and that ending wasn't so hot, pretty much resolved squat and the characters went their seperate ways, love interest be damned.
