Chicago: 3-Disc Special Edition--Sept. 13th

From DVD Answers.com:

Miramax Home Entertainment has announced a three-disc collector's edition of Chicago which stars Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The set will be available to own from the 13th September this year, and should retail at around $34.99. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 Surround tracks. Extras will include a commentary with the Director and Screenwriter, extended musical performances, song rehearsals, Chita Rivera’s Encore, a From Stage To Screen: The History of Chicago documentary and An Intimate Look at Director Rob Marshall feature. Also included will be features on the Academy Award winning costume and production designers, a VH1 Behind The Movie feature, a Deleted Musical Number “Class” performed by Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah and a behind the scenes featurette. Completing the package will be the sixteen track soundtrack. Stay tuned for the official region one package artwork.

Great news!

Hmmm, well, the 3rd disc is the CD.

The commentary is probably the same, and the current version has DTS, the "Class" scene, and a behind the scenes featurette. It's possible the first disc in the set could be exactly the same. I think the soundtrack disc that I have with the bonus DVD has the VH1 special. The stage to screen thing sounds interesting, but unless it's remastered with a huge improvement to the picture (which I extremely doubt, and it's not really needed anyway) I think I'll pass.

True, the first disc may be the same and the third is the soundtrack, but the movie did win Best Picture...a re-release is both expected and, if the features are worthy, welcomed. Hey, why not? This year seems to be saturated with re-releases, anyway...why not have another one?

Oh, I'm not complaining or anything. This looks like a fine release for those who don't have it yet, especially if they don't have the soundtrack and want it too. I loved the movie, but I just don't see myself getting this. I'm happy with what I have now.

Guess I'll pick this one up to replace the foolscreen version my girl accidentally bought.

The bonus disc DOES NOT have the VH1 special. This will be the first time it's on DVD.

I bought the single disk the day it came out and have yet to put it in a player, so I think I'll just stick with that version.

Yep. I'm a collector...always have been. As such, I like to set goals for myself. Attaining all of the Best Pictures on DVD was one such goal. The one-disc works just fine in filling that hole in my collection, and likely won't be revisited too often...so this makes one double-dip that I won't have to bother with (unless I eventually run across it in a pawn shop for $6-7, which is where nearly all of my double-dips occur).

Never heard of that... what is on two CDs? The original had 18 tracks including extras not in the film.

I own the soundtrack, so a 3-disc set sounds lame to me. Why can't they give me the 2-DVD SE set I've been holding out for since the initial release already!?!?!

Just thought I would mention I was the first person to say 2-Disc SE's would eventually take second place to 3-Disc and 4-Discers. Sweet Jesus, I may just be right. In a few years, we'll have 8-Disc SE's be the norm.

rfduncan, there was a limited edition of the soundtrack out. It had an extra disc of rehersal footage and a video. This is the listing on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...364252-2579210

The second disc was a DVD with a "making of" special as well as some other extras, I believe.

Japan got a 2 disc set right off the bat.

Unless you're a die-hard fan of this musical, I don't think that many people are going to care. One of the more forgettable Best Picture winners in recent memory...although I suppose you could say it's "another in a long line of forgettable Best Picture winners".

Shannon, Chicago was definitely the least deserving Best Picture winner I can remember personally. Obviously, there are as many opinions are there are people, but for me the Oscar pretty much always went to the best of the nominated films. I don't think I can name another film that won Best Picture, besides Chicago, that I'm absolutely indifferent towards.

LOL same here. No need for the "Razzle Dazzle" edition to join it on the shelf.

I hate these stupid edition names. Do the studios believe that they will actually bring in more sales, or is this just the marketing interns getting bored?

Anyway, decent cover. Looking forward to it. It's available at Amazon, by the way.
