The Comeback (HBO) - Series Thread - starring Lisa Kudrow
Anybody going to watch this? I'll give it a shot, if only because it's right after Entourage. I suppose a lot of Friends fans will watch? I never watched that show, and I never really thought much of Lisa Kudrow, so I'm not expecting too much. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I was going to start a thread about this earlier, but I forgot about it. Seems like she is playing a Phoebe like character to me (ie. clueless) based on previews, but I hope not.

It's HBO. I'll watch it. However, aside from small doses of her Ursula/Phoebe character, I've never particularly enjoyed Kudrow, so I'm not getting my expectations too high.

I thought it was pretty terrible. The only part I actaully laughed was when she came out in the jogging suit. It looks like next episode they are going to continue to attempt to get laughs out of the suit. It was funny at first, then it was just there. It is also a bad sign when they have to resort to bathroom humor on the first episode. Its sad to sink that low in the first 30 minutes of a new season of a new show.

Horrible.
I think it would be better if that is if she played more of a likeable character instead of this typical Hollywood egomaniac.

OK, good, so it's not just me. I love Lisa Kudrow and up until this, thought I would be happy watching her read the phonebook.
I can't believe she co-wrote and co-executive produced this dreck. Bathroom "humor" AND gross-out humor (the hairdresser's melanoma just kept getting worse and worse!! HA! HA!) in the same 30 minutes. Just wow.

Not good.
It gets an "A" for ambition, but that's about it. There's too much going on here for a 30-minute show, and it's not very funny. The writing really lacks here.
I like Kudrow a lot, and I think she should stick to dramatic supporting roles in indie flicks.
Move Arrested Development over to HBO, uncensor it and there you go. The world would be a better place.

Yup, I agree with everyone here. I love Kudrow (das, check out "The Opposite Of Sex"; she gives an Oscar-worthy performance there), but here nothing worked. I guess it's not really possible to do a fictional reality show about a sitcom, it's too many levels removed and you just end up not caring. Some jokes might have helped, though.
It was a bad show in its own right, but it really compared unfavorably next to Entourage and CYE, two other HBO sitcoms about Hollywood behind the scenes.

Wow..I am so out of touch with my fellow Americans. :-)
I laughed. Thought it had potential. Saw a lot of Curb Your Enthusiasm influence. Subtle stuff like her talking about her wall and saying "married now, so ya have ta share" and they pan for a second to show her husband's tiny lil area. Her thinking she's a big star and even her husband makes light, yet supports when it counts. A few more things...
Obvious cringeworthy parts as well, like the bathroom "humor"...
meh..we'll see... I've been wrong before. Will watch a couple more.
(FYI - I caught this Monday after Six Feet Under. Not sure if that affects anything.)
