So my GF was in Vegas this week for a conference for her work, so she invited me to come out and stay with her towards the end of the conference. She got a killer rate on an extra night at the Mandalay Bay ($119) so I came out Thursday - Saturday.
I stayed at the Mandalay Bay once before (my 21st bday about 6 years ago) and while I like the property, I've decided I won't stay there anymore. It's too far south on the Strip. It's a chore to get anywhere except the Luxor which is right next door.
Anyway, had dinner at the Luxor Steakhouse last night. It was good but I think it was a tad overpriced. For my girl and myself it was $140 w/o any drinking. I had a nice filet, but it certainly wasn't as good as the price (12 oz. for $38). I'm not sure I'd go back, since I've had cheaper steaks that were as good and cheaper at other places. The decor and ambiance of the steakhouse was very, very nice. The service was also fantastic, though.
As for the gambling part of the trip, I was doing extremely well. The first night, I got in late, so I walked to Luxor w/ my gf and I sat down at a $10 Pai Gow Poker table. I lost 4 hands in a row. I got so pissed off that I got up, left and went to bed.
But, Friday was a new day. I was rolling playing Pai Gow. I won at least $200 playing that on Friday w/ about another $50 playing craps. Over all, I walked away with about $400 in gambling winnings (almost all Pai Gow). I've never been on such a good run at one game before. I was getting straight flushes, 4 of a kind. Even my shitty pai gow hands were beating the dealers.
We took in a show on Friday night. I've always wanted to see the Amazing Jonathan live. He's moved around 2 or 3 times in the past few years due to issues w/ the Casino. He just started his show up at the Sahara. Other than being a PITA to get there, the show was well, well worth it. I've seen his stand up before, and most of the stuff that used to do is still in there with alot of new material. I think we payed $66 for the tickets each, and I don't think I've gotten my money's worth from many shows in Vegas but this time I did. Definitely check it out. Well worth the money.
My only 2 regrets were not getting to check out the Wynn casino. Even being down on that end of the strip, it was tough to get to. There were cars lined up going into the place. Looked like it was a happening place.
Also, I wanted to head over to the Rio to check out some of the WSOP stuff. It started this week and I wanted to check it out. Oh well.
