Better Than Ezra - Before the Robots May 31, 2005
1 Burned
2 Daylight
3 A Lifetime
4 It's Only Natural
5 Overcome
6 Special
7 American Dream
8 Our Last Night
9 A Southern Thang
10 Juicy
11 Hollow
12 Our Finest Hour
13 Breathless
I'm a long time BTE fan(atic) and this albus does what they do best, write and preform smart pop songs. It's a little too adult contemporary sounding at first listen, but after a second listening showcases Kevin Griffin's smart and simplistic songwriting that is making him such a hot co-writing commodity (Howie Day, Graham Colton, Blondie to name a few.)
My favorites after multiple listenings are Overcome, Breathless, and Special.
I definitely recommend it, but I'm a huge Ezralite.

Been down with them since the "Good" days and still love 'em. Budget's tight, so I can't pick this up just yet, but I'd really like to. The BTE website was (maybe still are) selling signed copies. As tempting as that is, I'm going to have to wait.

I've always been a big fan of BTE. i knew they had a new album coming out, but i was was taken aback at first...
This past weekend, i'm in the car with my brother. "A Lifetime" comes on the radio. I was like, "man, I love this song. and they have a new album that just came out. I have to pick it up"
Naturally, my brother says, "ah, so this is the new single."
I reply, "nah, this is off 'Closer'. That was released a few years back."
Little do I know, that when I go to buy the CD, "A Lifetime" is on the new disc!
anyone know why they did this? Granted, it is a great song (My favorite from Closer), but it just seemed strange. I've seen that done (re-releasing songs) when bands go from being Independent to a major label, but that's certainly not the case here.
Was Closer released under a different label? I don't follow BTE close enough to know all their label dealings, but that would make sense. Maybe they always thought it was a great song, but the previous label wouldn't release it as a single?

Guess the band thought it didn't get the shot it deserved on that album. Closer was indeed released on another label. I think that album's OOP now, the label's out of business, and ownership of the original recording is caught up in legal red tape. There's been discussion about this on BTE's official messageboard. I was curious about the re-recording, too.
BTW, the band's on Conan tonight.

Seems like they have made a good choice since AAA and Hot AC have taken to the song, and is moving up both charts pretty well.
Also, BTE will be on Conan tonight 6/7!

Pretty good CD - just picked it up today. A little disappointed about the whole "A Lifetime" thing, but I hope it makes the album more "commercial" for them and they get some cash off it!

And I agree with the band. it was immediately my favorite song on Closer, and one of my all-time BTE favorites.
