Will Lucas release the unaltered Star Wars films on DVD?
I ask because he keeps on working on his SW creation constantly changing his word. He's decided to release all in 3D now, and a SW tv-show, rumors of a pre-episode 1 movie, and future ep.7-9 even by other directors. Will he go back and change his word of never releasing the original movies and actually release the 1977, 1980, and 1983 masterworks on DVD? With original poster art on the covers as they convey the feeling of the films a lot better, and have a lot more class, and none of this Star Wars Episode IV/V/VI: A New Hope and just have three movies simply called Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi

He keeps adding things to his SW plethora, making money on it. I'm just hoping a few years from now he could realize this and release these as it was meant to be, the originals given the DVD treatment.

I believe Lucas was quoted in an interview as saying, more or less, "If you want the original movies, buy them on VHS. They're my movies, and I can do what I want with them." I don't know where the original interview is, so obviously it's not an exact quote, but that was the gist of it.

I know it's been discussed before he won't release them, but how surprising he keeps playing on the house adding new Star Wars projects to something he said he's done with. A new hope for the originals?

since the thread is up i have a question...
if they released the classic trilogy unaltered who would bitch if they didn't take out matte lines and if they only released original mono track...(I know star wars had a stereo track in some places also)...so matte lines on the ships, and rancor, etc. and no surround sound.....then what

thats about as likely to happen as me becoming president of the USA.
thanks for making me laugh though.

Anyway, I wouldn't bitch about the original films being released with its original effects. That would be one of the main points of doing it in the first place.

Well the only extra content i'd care about would be the director/cast commentaries as long as we get the originals on DVD, with those beautiful poster covers. Warner releases its own classics with original poster covers intact.
