DVD Talk review of 'Danger Mouse - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2'
I read John Sinnott's DVD review of Danger Mouse - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=16007 and...
Thanks for posting such an early review of the upcoming Danger Mouse release. I have plenty of fond memories of coming home to watch this show on Nickelodeon after school -- even though I realize now that I didn't get half of the jokes.
By the way, I didn't notice in your review if this DVD release uses the original British audio tracks or the American re-dub. It's easy to tell. If the henchman Stilleto has an Italian accent, it's the British version. If he has a Cockney accent, it's the American version. (Apparently, Nickelodeon was afraid of offending the Italian-American community.) It's probably too much to hope for both audio tracks, and I'm not sure which I'd personally prefer. I grew up with the Cockney Stilleto, but I guess I should prefer the original audio. If possible, could you let us know?

This is the British version of the show. I thought Stilleto's voice sounded different. Since everyone else sounded the way I remembered it, I figured it was just my faulty memory. There is only one audio track on the discs.

Cor!
Is that one voice the only one that was redubbed?

Thanks for the quick response, John. It's a shame that A&E didn't give us the option of both audio tracks, but maybe Nickelodeon has the rights and wouldn't license them to A&E. But I'll probably be picking this up just the same.
And Josh, yes, Stilleto's was the only voice to be redubbed for American audiences. As I said, the decision was due primarily to Nickelodeon's concerns with offending Italian-American viewers. I guess that, if you have to pick any audience to offend by portraying them with a stereotypical accent, then Cockney is the way to go....
