Was looking over a list of albums online by Snoop Dog and realized I couldn't even name one song he's recorded.
Anyone out there can't name one song from some major name act?

The list would take 2 pages. I go out of my way not to know the crap that's played on hit radio or popular with the doom and gloom crowd. But it would include
Hillary Duff
Puff Daddy
Lindsey Lohan
Good Charlotte
Mudvayne
Slipknot
Korn
Limp Bizkit
etc
Something tells me I'm not missing any of the great works of modern music.

I think when you reach a certain age, this list becomes huge (seeing how most commercial music is aimed at teens and pre-teens). My list would include almost all of the top 40 artists today, I imagine. I comfort myself with the knowledge that I can name songs by artists most of the kids have never even heard of.

I agree with everything you said.
The only reason I can even name a Maroon 5 song is because they get played on every radio station 98294 times an hour. It's why radio sucks (and why I need XM or Sirius :()

Santana
I guarantee if I played Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman or Smooth, you'd recognize it.

I think you would know the titles of Oye Como Va, Black Magic Woman and Evil Ways if you listen to AOR (and some Top40) stations in the 70s and 80s or to Classic Rock stations in 90s and 00s. They were/are played quite frequently and the titles are featured heavily in each song. Smooth, on the other hand, you might not know the title. You would never know the titles Jingo or Everybody's Everything but you'd know it's Santana.

My list would include almost all of the top 40 artists today, I imagine. This makes me wonder about when the 00's are nostalgia and there is a radio station devoted to nothing but Top 40 from today. I will be 100% clueless about it. I've seen current charts and I really don't have any idea what almost all those songs sound like. I'm kind of clued into current underground/alt acts, but almost nothing from Top 40.

Good lord! Why are you giving this guy such a hard time?
The OP asked a simple question, and Filmmaker gave a simple answer. He's obviously never been a Santana fan to the point where he could name one of his songs just based on hearing his name. He probably has heard those songs before, but it doesn't change the fact that if someone mentions the name "Santana", he wouldn't be able to name a song by him, and likewise if he heard the song, he may recognize the song, but probably wouldn't know the title or be able to associate it with Santana! Jeez!
Sorry for the rant, but this hit on a pet peeve. People do something similar to me all the time:
"You remember (name)?"
"No."
"You know, (the guy) that (did that one thing) a few years back?"
"No."
"Come on. He used to hang out with (some other person you don't know)."
"NO!"
"You know, he's related to (someone else you never met)."
"NO! GOD DAMN IT! NO!"
"Well, your brother knows him."
"GOOD FOR MY BROTHER!!! TELL HIM YOUR COCKAMAMIE STORY!!!"
;)
And just to keep this on subject matter, I wouldn't be able to name songs by most country or rap artists, the two evil ends of the musical spectrum.

I wasn't giving him a hard time. I was trying to point out that he probably does indeed know more than he believes. :D
On subject:
Assuming that it's an indication of popularity, looking at the Billboard 100 Albums, I can't name one song or would even recognize a recording by any of the following:
50 Scent ( I know)
Dierks Bentley
Mike Jones
Ciara
John Cena
Il Divo
The Starting Line
Bobby Valentino
Akon
Mike Jones
Rascal Flats
And that's just the first 25 or so!

And everybody would know the names of the titles of songs by other artists listed here if they listened to the proper stations, too--the fact is, I don't listen to Santana, I'm not interested in Santana, and if you played a song by Santana and asked me to tell you the title, I wouldn't have a fuckin' clue. Kindly quit riding my case on this.

What's my name? (snoop dogg) Maybe because I don't care one iota for the style of music he's involved with? I know it seems odd, but my interest in him is down near zero. That juice song sounds vaguely familiar but probably because I've heard other people maybe joke about it (??)
I also couldn't name one song from Tupac either. "Thug Life"? Not sure. And don't care.

Of course, those are the ONLY three songs that ever get played by Santana on modern (read: Clear Channel) radio.
