Awesome! Now when my buddies call me up and ask me what I'm doing, I can tell them I'm with a hooker, when actually I'm just watching T. J. Hooker...with a prostitute.

What I really want are seasons 3 & 4 - when James Darren joined the cast. I'm happy to see seasons 1 & 2, though - I love that show! Hooker is so over the top, it's hilarious! I love that guy, he says what I'd want to say if I were in his position - and Shatner plays him just like I'd want to. The scripts were pretty simplistic, and the character development was pretty weak, but the show was just damn fun!

Even for a cop show, the action was fast and pretty ferocious for TV and for starring a 40-something guy. It's draw was to watch and see what crazy shite Shatner would do next. I never watched it in the day, except the episode where Heather Locklear played the stripper because...well, you have to have priorities, but I've caught a couple on channel 87 or something and it's sooo over the top action-wise. In the climax of the one I saw, Shatner chases a teenage kid and somehow gets on top of a huge retaining wall that's uneven that he's having to progressively jump down levels of to catch up with a school bus (!) that he then leaps on top of like a flying squirrel. Great, ludicrous shite.

Definitely a fun show, though overflowing with cheese, especially in the early episodes. No doubt part of its charm. Very '80s show, too. Photography is a dead giveaway. Theme was great. And agreed that it got better when James Darren joined the cast.
Given the choice between watching T.J. Hooker or Hunter, I would probably go with Hunter. Better stories, better chemistry, much less cheese (once Fred Dryer stopped with the unending "works for me" remarks). But Hooker is still a good show.

I just discovered that A&E is running TJ Hooker 4-5 am each weeknight, so I will opt for recording those and watching them. Great cheese. However, still good to hear that this is getting a release.

I was so in love with Heather when this show was on and even got to meet her when she did an autograph signing at a motorcycle show here in Toronto during that time

That cover doesn't make sense - it shows James Darren and Heather Locklear in a shootout. Darren wasn't even on the show until season 3, and Locklear's Stacy Sheridan was a desk-bound officer until Darren joined the cast.
I'll still buy it, of course, but it shows some rather sloppy work on the part of the studio....

The show was typical of the 80s, so cheezy. It always featured some recurring theme like Hooker defying authority, Romano getting shot, or Stacy getting kidnapped. This show definitely had the "jiggle" factor, as they often had some big-boobed guest star on, or bikini-clad chicks adorning the background. They usually end the show with some corny joke or lame gag at Romano's expense.
