Which system will be the best for a sports gamer.

Sorry for starting a new thread but this is probably the only way this question will be considered. I am a huge sports gamer (primarily NBA,NFL, and MLB but am open to them all, hockey, tennis, soccer, golf etc...) and XBOX ruled the day in for the last generation with its great graphics, hardrive, and usage of customizable tracks. My question is which next gen system(360 v. PS3) this time around seems to have the edge on sports. In terms of titles, graphics, gameplay (thats hard to judge now) and most importantly online gaming abilities?

TIA

In the long run, I'm not sure. But one thing that'll move a few consoles by the end of the year: Madden 06 will be on Microsoft's next-gen console, the XBOX 360, (as well as the current XBOX), but will only be on Sony's current-gen console, the PS2. That's a pretty big gap of performance.

Not enough info is out there yet to make that call.

I would say Xbox. Xbox offers the best visuals, sound, online play, and best of all, a harddrive. If you plan on playing multiple sports games on a PS2, get ready to purchase numerous memory cards.

Too early to tell on all accounts, as far as i'm concerned. Until the actual games come out and reviews hit, there would just be pointless speculation based on system specs and how the controllers "look."

Definitely way too early to tell.

It'll be interesting to see how online plays goes into effect for each system. It seems with XBox Live they will be having tournaments where you can win a ton of money.

I think the Xbox360 will continue to have the edge in online play, but its looking like the PS3 versions of the multiconsole games are going to look the best if the PS3 graphics live up to expectations.

Hard to judge? More like impossible! We really don't know yet.

One thing that could be a deciding factor for these kinds of games (and other games too) will be the controller. So far, IMHO the 360 would get the nod by far in this category as I don't like the "look" of the PS3 controller at all. I'm not talking about the appearance-it just doesn't look that comfortable, and I still don't like the broken-up D-pad. Even if they go back to the Dual Shock, I would still prefer the 360 controller from what I've seen of it. Of course, we don't know what the Revolution's controller will be like, although it seems that it will be different from anything we've used before. That could help or hurt it when it comes to sports games, we just don't know. Although, I guess you don't care about that system since you specified 360 vs. PS3.

It's also too early to tell if one of the consoles will fall out of favor with one of the manufacturers of sports games. I'm referring to how Sega quit making its sports games for GameCube so you were pretty much limited to EA's offerings from that point on. I'd like to think Sega, assuming they still can have the license to make a sports game that can compete with EA (well they have MLB at least), will make sports games for all the consoles, but for how long we don't know.

We also don't know if the first parties will go back to making sports games, but that probably doesn't matter anyway.

I think you need to re-read the question.

In Gizmo;s defense, I had to edit my original question because it read in a way that could possibly seem like I was referring to the current gens. Im glad I decided to get the 360 now that I think about not having to wait on Madden. The way Ive been going crazy recently with buy gadgets, I might end up with at least two gens if not three.

Drexl I eliminated Nintendo because they never have seemed to focus on sports gaming and they are coming out a long time from now. I shouldnt assume things though about the new gens so you are right, Nintendo deserves mention as well.

To be honest I would not put Nintendo in the mix if sports are important to you. They will get sports support from EA, but I don't know if they will get 2K games back ever. Not to mention the games will probably look better on the other two consoles.

If you play online, then the 360 as Live will probably still be the best online gaming option.

In terms of games, graphics, etc. it's too early to call. I would't expect much difference there between the 360 and PS3 though.

I'd say the X360, because of XBOX LIVE. As graphics and sound go, both Next-Gen consoles are pretty much gonna be the same because they are gonna make games for the lowest common denominator. Example: EA is gonna make one football game and port it to all three consoles. So if X360 has Madden at 1080i, then PS3 will too! which one will look better? Neither....More than likely they'll just look the same.

Some other things that we've liked in the past about Xbox is customizable soundtracks. I don't remember but there should be more things based in the hard drive.
For the next generation both consoles will have hard drive, so is the PS3 to support customizable soundracks or things like that?

Even if the 360 has the new Madden, isn't it going to just be the same game as the PS2 one with updated graphics? Because if it's not, they're going to have to start from scratch, and rarely does the first year of sports games for a new system spell anything good. I mean, geez, they had problems with the last NCAA game for Xbox!

The only way one comes out a clear winner is if one signs an exclusivity agreement with EA or something...
