DVDSoon brings back free shipping until 12/31/05

I know a lot of people aren't really happy with the service they receive from DVDSoon, but I still thought there would be some that would like to know that the free shipping is back.

Although I did notice a lot of their prices went up a couple dollars, so I guess it just depends on how you look at it.

Prices are up bigtime. Five days ago I placed an order for six items that totals about $22CAD more today than when I ordered. Being a Fidelity member I got the free shipping anyway.

But now that they've brought back free shipping for everyone (which this year up to now has been exclusive to Fidelity members), they should throw some other nice bonus to us Fidelity members. I hope.

I've noticed price hikes are only a dollar or so, which are roughly the equivalent of the old shipping price. What did you order that had the huge price jumps?

All prices in CAD:

Star Trek: Insurrection (CE). Was $8.98 Now $12.59.
The Jacket. Was 21.98. Now $25.62.
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry. Was $14.18. Now $15.65.
Hitch. was $20.98. Now $24.77.
Coach Carter. Was $19.98. Now $23.75.
Casino (10th Anniv.). Was $12.98. Now $16.81.

Total: Was $99.08. Now $119.19.

I said the difference was about $22, which I estimated in my head very fast and I was a little off. But it is more than $20 which is certainly more than the shipping used to be for those who aren't Fidelity members.

Edit: Prices have changed again.

yeah, free shipping on something that's probably not going to ship for months isn't too worthwhile, imo.

This is exactly what first came to my mind as well! The least they could do would be to increase the ratio of earned points to dollars for members.

Old Disney Stuff

With the free shipping, (no I don't know if they raised the prices) you
can't beat the prices on some of the Disney stuff. I compared to DDD
and I come out on top. I have used these guys in the past and they are
patheticaly slow but they have delivered so I tried them again. Here is my order. The free shipping is from Canada. Does that slow it down???

Return To Snowy River $ 9.76
Wrinkle in Time $ 16.39
Starring Mickey $ 9.76
Starring Donald $ 9.76
Starring Goofy $ 9.76
Starring Chip'n'Dale $ 9.76
Never Cry Wolf $ 15.03
// not Disney
Hello Dolly! $ 9.76

Subtotal $ 89.97 CAD

So, if they are bad at filling orders, wouldn't make more sense (during the free shipping promotion) to but only 1 title at a time and split your order up? That way no title would hold any other title up.

That's good to know. Anybody got some good pointers to Canadian-only releases?

I started making my first order will them and noticed an option to get the items shipped in a box for an extra $1 per item:

Do you guys normally spring for that? If not, how are the movies usually packaged?

like dollfins said, if your order is large enough, they ship it in a box anyway. If it's a single DVD, they ship it in a bubble mailer.

Yes, I too noticed they increased the price on many titles I've been eyeing. "Free shipping" turns out to be not free after all.

Not right now but wait. DVD Soon prices go up and down like a yo-yo. Keep tabs and in a reasonable time I'm sure prices will be back down again and you'll still have free shipping.

I do this all the time. And when I time it wrong and prices go even lower than when I ordered, I cancel the order and reorder at the lower price (as long as the order isn't too far along to be cancelled). Then I have a little credit in my account until I find something else to get.

a bit off topic, but I can see that they listed all Warner Bros snapcases as Keep Cases, is that true? Like I've been checking a couple of releases such as Ocean's Eleven, Mars Attacks, Ace Ventura, Training Day, well all of them actually...I would really like to know, thanks!

Looks like they've hiked up their prices yet again... I wonder what they will be tomorrow?

Ok, got an order in for sinbad season one (yeah I know, but I liked beastmaster and herc) for like 7-8 bucks, and free shipping, it says pending........on order
But the price since went way back up, its now listed as 48 canadian, which I assume is about 36 us......(this set probably isnt worth that)
Anyway, does anyone know how dvdsoon would handle something like this?
Do they inform me, cancel and refund my order? Or would they be likely to follow through with it? or god forbid, charge me the diff (like blockbuster might try)
This is my first experience with them.....
any insight would be appreciated....
Thanks guys and girls.

No. They will ship it eventually for the price you ordered it with. They can't charge you more since they don't store your credit card details.

I have yet to hear of dvdsoon not honoring a "misprice".

Thanks guys and girls.

You'll get it at the price you purchased it for (7-8 bucks). It may take as long as 6 weeks for them to ship it, but you will get it.

I just got the Ingmar Bergman set for $39. Now it's listed for $98. It shipped last week, although I ordered it in the beginning of April.

DVDSoon is great for deals from time to time, just don't use them if you want your order within the next few days.
