One of my former coworkers at a popular company named after a woman and associated with baked goods called me and said that there was a bomb threat and the entire 3-Com building near Schaumburg was evacuated. They found the threat on a printer, not sure if it came from an internal source or not.

Wow, this company just keeps making the news. Plummeting profit earnings, consolidation and mass-layoffs of middle and upper management. Mayor Daley seems p-o-ed that they're leaving the Chicago city limits for Downer's Grove. So if anyone has access to a radio or a TV in the Chicago area, let me know if this hits the news at all.

Easter weekend. We're still in the Roselle condo right now, but we bought a house in Glendale Heights last week, so we're kinda in between places. We're still in the painting phase there (sealing walls and ceilings since they were smokers).

And someone already guessed the employer--not sure if I can just come out and say it, but hey, I don't work for them anymore!

Ah, I think many, many people make their way through one of the last bastions of affordable housing in DuPage County: Glendale Heights. Freaking quarter of a million for a house. Maybe they should transfer my other half to Richmond, VA. Bah, probably not any more affordable there.

Did anyone say hick?

hey hey, my sister and her family lived in Glendale Heights, for about 2 years.

and I work in Mount Prospect, usually I drive through Rolling Meadows to pick up a carless friend, but not today, so I can't update the situation . . .

Sheesh. My grade school (Queen Bee on Bloomingdale Rd) is now a daycare from the last time I drove around that area. We used to live on Mark Ave about 3 blocks from Queen Bee.

I went to Glenside Jr. High (Glenside Middle now) and Glenbard West for 2 years.

We moved to Polo Club Drive in ~1988 or so and moved to Georgia in 1992. (I am obviously back in Chicago). We lived on Polo Club when Reskin was still living, so we actually lived across from the Polo Club. The heirs have since sold the property and there is all sorts of development in that area now. Kinda makes me sad when I see it.

Ahh.... one of my favorite memories of Glendale Heights ... back in the late 80's, early 90's the (blue collar) community thought it would be cool to have a burn out contest in the middle of the city (literally, Fullerton Rd in front of city hall). YES -- a freakin' official burn out contest -- sponsored by the city. They cancelled it a few years later because they couldn't find insurance for it

Small freakin' world.

No, I meant that I thought JustinS was from the south, or Texas or something, not from the Western burbs of Chicago.

Two things:
1. 3-Com doesn't own that building anymore. At least they took down the 3-Com sign out front (it now says U.S. somethingorother)

2. I live in Wheaton and love it, except for the whole Christian fundie thing. It's a great place for kids.

It went from US Robotics to 3-Com to some company I've never heard of.

Plainfield, formerly Schaumburg REPRESENT!

Take the train... I am sure someone can pick you up...Yep. Take the Metra Milwaukee West line to the Medinah stop. You're about 5 minutes by car from D&Bs.
