The Hold Steady - they as good as their reviews?

THE HOLD STEADY has a new album called "Separation Sunday" which follows one from 2004 that was well-received.

I've heard "Stevie Nix" from the new album and it's pretty good.

Anyone heard their stuff, and are they as good as the hype all
of the music publications give them?

I'm obviously living under a rock because I had no idea this album was getting hype. I like the Hold Steady but is it a great album? I'm not sure about that. I definitely don't see it them as a band you tell your friends they have to hear or that "Separation Sunday" is a must listen to album. It's a good album, pretty fun, but certainly not for everyone. To me they sound like a great bar band and overall I'd recommend it.

Glorified bar band IMO. I get the same vibe from them as I do from Electric 6, and I'm someone who likes Reid Paley.
