saw this story on AICN...

Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Steven Soderbergh has signed a six picture deal with 2929, who owns Magnolia Pictures, Landmark Theaters, and HDNet Movies cable channel. The six films will be simultaneously distributed at Landmark Theaters, broadcast on HDNet's Movie cable movie channel and available on DVD & Home Video -- allowing you to choose how you wish to see the film. One can only assume that the marketing for this would allow for the advertising money to be spent to sell all 3 outlets of distribution at the same time, combining these budgets into one larger media push.

That's pretty wild. We don't have Landmark Theaters here, and I don't have HDNet, so I'll be checking out the DVDs.

If Soderbergh makes it, I go to the theater to see it.

same here......although I just saw Oceans 12 the other day, but I won't let that ruin his streak

Sounds pretty neat. I go to Landmark every now and then and would definitely go to check this out.

There are no Landmark theaters near me, and I don't have HDNet either, so the dvds will be the only option available to me.

I'm glad Mark Cuban got a relatively high-profile director signed on to his plan to change the way movies are released. I'm interested to see what impact this will have on movies produced by other companies in the future.

Personally, I'll probably try to see the movies in the theater. I don't need much of an excuse to go to the Magnolia Theater, and I am a Soderbergh fan.

Unfortunately, there is no Landmark Theater in our area...

DVD all the way.

Six new ways for Soderbergh to make mediocre movies?

Let's hope not.

Well I do have HDNet but it depends on the movie. It'll depend on which Soderberg we get here.
