Caddyshack - Bad DVD transfer?
I've heard that the Caddyshack DVD was made terribly and has an awful picture transfer, is this true ? I was looking at this but I'm not so sure if it has a bad transfer.

It certainly isn't GOOD... but it isn't really distracting. I haven't heard anything at all about a re-release, so go for it. It's usually on sale at Circuit City or Best Buy, check the DVD baragains thread every week. Can't go wrong with a cheap, hilarious flick

Just make sure you get the widescreen version (with the blue sky in the background that says "20th Anniversary" on the bottom). I think the old one is OOP but I still see copies of other discs on the shelves that have long been replaced by superior versions. I haven't seen the transfer on the old one but I imagine its even worse than the anniversary edition, besides being fullscreen.
Basically, it looks like they did do a new transfer, but they didn't clean up the film elements.

IMHO, one of the most disappointing transfers out there. If your display device is a small tube television you might be ok, but if you're viewing on a RPTV, Flat Panel or Front Projector, look out!

I have never had a huge problem with the transfer. It is not the best, but the jokes are still funny. Being that I only saw the movie on TBS growing up, I am not sure if I could get used to a great video transfer. The grainy picture kind of gives it a nice, classic touch to me.

I'm bumping this thread; the transfer is hands-down the worst in my 350ish DVD collection, and I'd love to see it cleaned up. Is there any news on a re-visit to this title?

Well I just watched it yeasterday and I agree the video is horrible. I will keep it though as it is a great movie, but if a new and better version comes out a few years from now or whenever, I would dump it for a better copy in a minute.

OK, I'm confused: IMDB says Caddyshack (SE) was released in 2000, which would be the 20th anniversary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080487/dvd), but Amazon has a preorder for a May 15, 2007, release of Caddyshack-20th Anniversary Edition (http://www.amazon.com/Caddyshack-20t...17338&sr=1-14).
Any ideas on what's up?

The Caddyshack DVD transfer looks terrible. When I bought the HD DVD, I had low expectations based on how bad the DVD looked, but the HD DVD picture quality is a huge improvement.

Damnit, now I am tempted to upgrade.

As for your 2nd question... by definition, if it's a repackage, it's the same transfer. But we won't know details until someone checks it out and reports back.
