989's new non-nfl football game... Road to Sunday

Although I'm glad that they're innovating instead of giving up on competing with madden entirely, it almost sounds like an April Fool's joke:
Road to Sunday is unlike any football game on the market. Gamers will play as Blake Doogan, a man who inherits a fictional football franchise and a debt to a Jamaican Kingpin after Doogan's father is killed in a mysterious explosion. Doogan figures the only plausible way to pay off the debt is to win the league championship. And enter his players in underground fighting tournaments.
Yes, Road to Sunday combines football and off-the-field backroom fighting. But it doesn't end there--since cash rules everything around them, the characters can also gamble on the fights to pay off the debts. For less bloody bets, Doogan can participate in poker and blackjack games, illegal and otherwise. Stealing a page from Pete Rose, Doogan can try his luck at the sports book, wagering on football games, complete with over/under, money-line, and props bets. If that weren't enough, gamers can take their players into the gym with a series of rhythm-based mini-games to pump 'em up and get them ready for Sunday.
Back on the field, Road to Sunday introduces Position Specific Gameplay. PSG allows gamers to select one of their seven playable characters and take on the action from their perspective. By locking on to one player, users can help make that one play that makes the difference in the game.
edit:
Hmm... maybe I should've posted this in the Videogame Announcements forum. Though it doesn't look like that forum has much traffic yet. Anyway, feel free to move it if it's appropriate.

I've got no problem with a non NFL football game where like College sports you recruit and develop your teams using randomly generated players. However, this game sounds like a complete mess. When will Sony do us a favor and kill off 989 once and for all?

Well the NFL would never let them tarnish the league's image by include something as deplorable as betting on football in a licensed game, so it sounds like the developers took that angle (and a little coke) and ran with it.

1) While I don't play baseball games that much, from what I've seen, few people can agree about which one is the best... at least, in the PSP thread, a lot of people are waiting for EAs version because they believe it's superior.
2) Doesn't Take 2 have exclusive rights to the MLB now? So 989 can't make an MLB game anyway. Unless they make a game where you can inject steroids into your (fake) players to increase their stats and make them tougher in the "brawling with the fans" mode.
Man, it's a good thing the NBA didn't sign an exclusivity agreement. Imagine where 989 could've taken that...

Answer to #2: Take Two has exclusive third party rights to MLB games, but first parties can still develop a baseball game. So 989 is still okay to develop another baseball game.

Yeah, 989 did a decent job on Baseball, but unfortunately they also make Football, Basketball and Hockey. They didn't even get baseball right until this year. They went for a stretch of 4 years or so when ever single sports title they released was horrible. Not bad, but horrible. So bad that there was no way it should have gotten past the beta testing stage if they even bother with that at 989. It boggles the mind that Sony would allow that to go on for so long without stepping in and at least have them skip a year or two to get themselves together.
I credit Microsoft for at least having the courage to do that with their bad sports titles.
