LOTS of "Pink Panther" on DVD this year!
According to The Digital Bits:
I'm very pleased "The Return of the Pink Panther" is being re-released on DVD (wow, by Universal?) as the previous disc from Artisan was pretty awful. Some of the lesser "Panther" flicks, namely "Son of" and and "Curse of" make their DVD debuts.
Thoughts?
In addition, Universal has announced the DVD release of The Return of the Pink Panther (SRP $14.98) on 7/26. This is timed to coincide with MGM's Pink Panther promotion on 7/26, which will include the release of The Pink Panther, A Shot in the Dark, Revenge of the Pink Panther, Trail of the Pink Panther, Curse of the Pink Panther, Son of the Pink Panther, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, The Pink Panther: Classic Cartoon Collection - Volume 1, The Pink Panther: Classic Cartoon Collection - Volume 2, The Pink Panther: Classic Cartoon Collection - Volume 3 and The Pink Panther: Classic Cartoon Collection5 pack.
Speaking of The Pink Panther: Classic Cartoon Collection (SRP $69.96), the 5-disc set will contain some 124 cartoons produced by Friz Freleng and David H. DePatie between 1964 and 1980, plus the Behind the Feline: The Cartoon Phenomenon documentary, the Pink Patter with Art Leonardi: The Story Behind the Animation, Remembering Friz: A Tribute to Friz Freleng, Think Pink: How to Draw the Pink Panther and Page to Screen: The Making of Two Cartoons featurettes, plus the animated main title sequences from five of the feature films.

I'm not clear what is meant by the "release" of the five films that have already been released. Does this mean yeat another release of these films, less than a year after their "special edition" release? If so, are they being released individually, or as part of another box set?

i would assume that they will be single movies in keep cases....same disc just individuals. A lot of people would like to own the first and second but none of the rest. I loved the box set though....and will rebuy a SE if it has the overseas special features not in the R1 set

I bought the box set when it came out earlier and it's great so I won't be re-buying them seperately. I am though happy that the Return movie that was missing from the box set will be comming out, I will definetly be getting that.

On Amazon.com, they have the 124 cartoon set will not be coming until 2010. There's also a comment below it that says that it will be in 2006 when the Steve Martin version comes. Which is it?

Well it's November, where are the individual releases? I'm guessing it will coincide with the new movie as become the new trend. I'd just get the box set but don't like the 1st (too many overly pompous snobs i dont' care about and not enough Sellers!) or Trail movie (spliced in archive footage).

From dvdactive.com:
Artwork here .
Still waiting now for the Universal releases, although it will probably be around the same day.
Title: Pink Panther
Starring: Peter Sellers
Released: 31st January 2006
SRP: $14.94 Each
Further Details:
MGM Home Entertainment has announced remastered editions of The Pink Panther (1964), Revenge of the Pink Panther, The Pink Panther Strikes Again and Trail Of The Pink Panther. Each will be available to own from the 31st January, priced at around $14.94 a piece. Also available from the 31st will be the first time releases of Son of Pink Panther, and Curse of the Pink Panther. Again, retail should be around $14.94 each. I'm afraid we have no word on any extra material for these, but we'll let you know if anything turns up. For now though, here's the artwork - although we're still waiting for The Pink Panther (1964) art:

The first Pink Panther is my least favorite of the Sellers-Panther movies. Why? Not enough of him! Some pompous brutally unfunny actors here (Claudia Cardinale beauty cannot overshadow her unfunniness), don't know why David Nivien starred in so many movies at all, and then Sellers is the fall guy at the end for them? Oh how hilarious... no. A Shot in the Dark on the other hand is the greatest of them all. The 70's are great too.

Do we know yet for certain if they are just re-releases from the set or new discs? I have a sealed set and I want to make sure before I open it. Thanks!
