MAME Challenge #36 (4/16-4/30)

MAMEbowl XXXVI is over!
We're going to have a new thread twice a month to see who can get the high score on 4 different games in MAME.

The NEW Rules:
  1. To enter, you just play one of the games and post a screenshot (F12 key in MAME) with your score.
  2. The deadline to post your high scores will be 11:59 PM on the 30th of the month.
  3. Any games should be played with one credit and no continues or any features that you wouldn't get by playing the actual machine.
  4. Submitted scores should be played during the designated time period, not scores you've gotten in the past.
  5. The winner can pick any game from MAME that we haven't already played for the next thread.
  6. If the winner doesn't pick a new game before the new thread starts, we will continue to play that game until someone else wins or the winner returns to choose a game. If a new game isn't chosen after 3 days, then the person with the next highest score gets the pick.
  7. If you play and beat any of the high scores from the previous games we've played, you can submit them here for the All Time Top Scores.

Download MAME to play the games.
New to MAME? Feel free to ask questions here or read the tutorials
I am going to host the current ROMs and list of all the past winners and high scores here.

The Games:
(click the games for info and how to play)

1942 (set 1) - Winning Score: devilshalo 266090

Defender (Red label) - Winning Score: D300 133225

Rush'n Attack (US) - Winning Score: ~~PAL~~ 148710

Vs. Dr. Mario - Winning Score: D300 255400

The Prize:
Whoever gets the high score for one of the current games picks the next game that replaces it. You also get your name engraved permanently etched onto this eye catching trophy with a genuine Sharpie!

The Winners:

OK Professor Frink, you have until Monday at 11:59 PM EDT to pick a new game, unless someone actually beats your score first. If we still don't have a game chosen by then, Lampei gets the pick. I'm waiting to do the trophy presentation

If you're around Lampei, go ahead and make a pick ahead of time, because if a game isn't chosen by the deadline then we're going to play my pick. I'm not sure anyone wants to play Wall St.

Just to get one in before devilshalo and because the cocktail table looks so cool

C'mon Lampei. I think you're going to miss out on a free pick. I don't think Frink is going to show up, and it's even less likely that someone beats his score by tomorrow night.

Roto,

Posted by Prof Frick in other thread
I guess I need to choose another title. I don't know what's already been done, so I'll list a few to choose from:

Elevator Action
Dr. Mario
Klax
I think the only one we haven't played is Dr. Mario...

OK, let's make it Vs. Dr. Mario.

That one has nostalgic value for me -- back in the day I could easily go for an hour on one quarter. Of course, that was then, and this is now, and I probably suck at it now!

BTW -- I just use the Windows screenshot method. Is there a way to take a screenshot from within MAME?

You're an old school DVD Talker, aren't you? You never read the first post of any threads either. F12 key saves it in the snaps folder

Level 15 already? So what game are you picking for next month? Maybe we can just switch it early.

I really need to get some more accessories for my CPU besides a keyboard.

I will play some of these games tonight, send you the Solomon's Key file.

Why? It's not like I'll ever do that.

It is my goal to build a MAME arcade sometime this year.

Until then, my KB will be getting a ton of use.

Check out the one our friend trozkd is working on. Haven't heard any updates from him in a while, but if it isn't finished by now, it's pretty close. It looks like my personal dream cabinet.

hmm, the rush n attack that I have is the play choice game.
The gameplay is exactly the same, but I will try and use the other one to make absolutely sure

I doubt the gameplay is exactly the same. As far as I know, all the playchoice games are the NES versions. Same hardware as the VS. arcade systems, but slight changes to the gameplay.

This is why I host the roms anyway. Just finished fixing some problems on the site. Dr. Mario is on there now. Please let me know if you have any problems with the roms, or if something's wrong with the site.

Oh, and I'll get to the trophy later, like whenever I damn well feel like it. I gotta squeeze gimmepilotwings and Professor Frink on there

Did you forget that I played puzzle games. I really choked on level 16 though. This game takes a long time to play.

I do not see Rush N Attack in my list, just the Playchoice version.

I have downloaded your ROM, it was already in my ROM list. I overwrote the file anyway and refreshed the screen, but it is still not there.
I am using MAME .93 or .94 version, if it matters.

Rush'n Attack is a clone of Green Beret. Look under "G"

I knew that it was a clone, but again, I wanted to make sure that I was playing the correct game, before I rack up a score...

I'm saying that's why I think you can't find it. If you can find Green Beret, Rush'n Attack should be listed right below it. The Playchoice version is not a clone of Green Beret, so it will be listed seperately.

Rush'n Attack has been in MAME for a long time now, so I doubt anyone needs to get a newer version, unless the guy runs slower now like in Pole Position
