Pamela Anderson stars in Stacked 04/13/05

In "Stacked," premiering Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. on Fox, Anderson plays a sweet but vacuous party girl who decides that she's had enough hangovers and bad dates.

Looking to change her life, she wanders into a bookstore called "The Stacks," where one of the dweeby owners (Brian Scolaro), who can't help but notice her considerable,um...assets, offers her a job.

She accepts, hoping that being around all those books and pencil-neck geeks will help to reform her dissolute ways.

"Her character is loosely based on her, but an un-famous version of Pamela Anderson," said creator Steve Levitan. "And we get to take lots of liberties."

In Wednesday's pilot episode, Anderson's character laments her bad choices in boyfriends. At a bar one evening, two guys were hitting on her, she says. Guy No. 1 was kind and considerate and had a good job, guy No. 2 was "drunk, covered in tattoos and licking my ace."

"Guess which one I leave with?"

Stacked Review

I am only starting this thread as a preemptive strike (i.e. anyone remember "Rewind" ? )When they don't give tv critics the preview tapes, it is a bad sign. When they advertise the show but don't show any clips, it is a bad sign. When they were six weeks to air without a pilot, it is a bad sign. I think I will tune in for the trainwreck.

You mean Pam has "hidden" talents?

This show looks like it will be up for Best Comedy Series next year at the Emmys.

Yeah, I actually enjoyed it.

Oh crap, now they're going to cancel it.

Totally forgot that it was on.

I think that an affiliate is playing it tonight, so I will catch it then. Looks interesting to me.

I was expecting a train wreck, but I also thought it was pretty funny. Christopher Lloyd is awesome.

I hope the show does well for her and the rest of the cast. I know people hate Pam but she seems like a nice person.

I agree with the sentiment - it was far better than the trainwreck I expected.

OK I'll be the odd duck here...

I thought this show was awful. Christopher Lloyd was good, but the rest of the cast was terrible including Miss Anderson.
The laugh track was very distracting as well.

If Fox dares cancel "Arrested Development" and puts this steaming pile of elephant scat on their network I'll lose my mind!

Ask yourself this question, If Pamela Anderson wasn't on this show and it was just some other "pretty face" would you have still thought it was a good show or even watched it for that matter?

Sorry to rain on the Stacked parade.

The funny thing is that for me the main reason I didn't watch it was because of Pamela Anderson.

that's the brilliance of having her on the show. our expectations are lowered so much that any semi-decent joke seems much funnier...

My thoughts exactly. It's not that I intensely dislike her or anything, but I'd probably be more apt to watch an ensemble show without her, since I automatically assume that she's the show's gimmick and selling point (which she is...) Just read an article where they agreed to the episode order before anything was even filmed, PLUS they have to work around her kid's soccer schedule.

What's up with "stars" settling for sitcoms now? I remember seeing commercials for that UPN show Cuts, and saying man, that girl looks like Shannon Elizabeth... only to find out that it is!

Is the laughtrack as bad as "Life on a Stick?" Maybe I'm just so used to not having a laugh track in sitcoms, but that one seems particularly bad.

There were a few okay moments, but I wasn't impressed. Part of the problem was that it was a pilot and had to go through all the setup motions, so I may give it another chance. But so far laughs were few and IMO Pam is getting to the point where she can't pull her image off.

the laugh track is just brutal on this show.. Not sure if that's due to the setting of a book store or how everone deadpans.. I mean normal sitcom the people are sort of laughing along I guess so it seems in place.. Book stores are not really known for being noisy places so the laugh track seems even more out of place and more so when everyone seems to just stand there, say a line, to another person standing there. I think the whole show took place in maybe a 10x16 foot area? Maybe? No one moved around nor did it seem like there was much of any place to move around. Apartments on friends seems x5 bigger then the whole set of the store.

I'm still sort of shocked shows run higher volume level laugh tracks anymore.. I mean lets say volume goes 1-10.. Maybe track in a 3 or 4 level maybe? The over the top "every word is --the funny-- so hit level 10!!!!!!!!!!!!" sort of track should be dead by now.. it's like getting a porn film that has the cheesy music on it and you just think "Wow someone still does that in todays films?".. errr I mean I never watch porn..

anyways.. Over all it was about what I expected a new sitcom, on FOX, with Pam Anderson to be..

oh my god that was bad. Not, say "Life on a stick" bad, but bad. Lloyd almost made me laugh a few times, but that was it. Pam's line readings were so wooden and emotionless that I couldn't even believe it...

But i'm sure this will make it at least a season, because, really, what else does Fox have?

pam anderson is the cause for the loss of woman with natural beauty throughout the entire world.

this show would be good if she wasnt there every ep.

would probably be a good one shot appearance for her but not every show.

she looks awful too.
is she pregnant?

and when did she become JOEY'S agent.

This is my take on it as well. I had to quit watching after about 20 minutes. I saw no redeeming entertainment value other than maybe Lloyd, but Pamela Anderson is just far more wretchedly bad than Lloyd is good. The other characters were completely forgettable. I'll be happy to miss every further telecast of this show and it's screechingly fake and annoying laugh track.

FOX is re-airing the show tonight (Sunday) at 9:30pm. I missed the first airing, may give it a shot this time.
