On disc 2 the epiosde "Prince of Wails" the gang is in a dimension where San Francisco is mostly underwater and they are dressed in '60s era garb in the next consecutive episode "Summer of Love" they arrive in a dimension in which they find people are still living life like it's the '60s. At the end of this episode they slide into the dimension where San Fransisco is about to be flooded.

Is this an error on the disc that the episodes were shown out of order or am I not understanding something?

Not a disc error, as the set is presented in original air date sequence.

Fox botched it, I believe, and in their infinite wisdom flip-flopped the order when they aired originally.

I see, thanks. It has been bugging me. I thought maybe it was tied into the story but I couldn't figure out how.

yeppers!! According to TV TOME, all of the 1st season episodes with the exception of the first, eighth and final were not aired in correct order.

I don't understand why they didn't correct that for the dvd release.

Fox wanted to put the best episodes frist, so they made the desision to show them in a different order.

Some shows were re-edited so that they would make sense in the new order. That's the cause of my biggest gripe with the series: they never explain how the device that opens the slider portal works! Originally there was a part where they mentioned that the device only has the energy to open a portal when one is near our dimesion, and it can predict when that will be. Hence all of the referances to "we still have 2 days before we can slide." But they cut that.
