DVD Talk review of 'The Best of the New Scooby-Doo Movies'

I read Mike Long's DVD review of The Best of the New Scooby-Doo Movies at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=15206 and...

I have to say that I respectfully disagree with the content portion of the review.

Being someone who was born after both shows (Where Are You? and New Movies) originally aired, I grew up watching both in syndication. That may be one reason why I completely disagree with the statement, "...they (CBS) rolled out The New Scooby-Doo Movies in 1972, and created a low-point in Scooby-Doodum which is only overshadowed by the Scrappy-Doo years." After purchasing both dvd sets I can honestly say that I loved both shows back then and I love both shows now! Heck, The Frickert Fracas is one of my favorite Scooby episodes of any of the shows!

While Mike found the addition of celebrity guests annoying, I thought that it provided freshness and individuality in each episode...something hard to come by in "Where Are You?" I do agree that there was a shift in emphasis from creepiness to comedy but I didn't notice the laugh track going off any more in "Movies" than "Where Are You?"

Finally, regarding the missing 9 episodes, if Mike's guess is correct that these were excluded because of disc space then I completely agree with him that they should have made two of the discs flippers. However, my guess would be that these 9 were excluded due to rights issues. In that case, I am happy they made available the episodes they did.

All in all I found this set a lot of fun, it brought back a lot of memories. My intentions are not to argue, just to provide another opinion for those considering purchasing this set!
