Title says it all. Is there one out there somewhere? I know the R1 fans got screwed and ended up with a "producer's" edition, but has Proyas gone overseas to get his version out?

edited: oops, title spelling error. "There" That is what I get for posting at work.

well, didn't I read that the original cut of the film was threatened with a X-rating and that some of the violence was toned down?

Not sure about that, but there was an entire character cut out called the Skull Cowboy. So there are definitely a handful of deleted scenes. Proyas also mentioned that he has hours and hours(200-300+) of behind the scenes footage that would make a great documentary. Probably similar to the one on I Robot. He also said he would do commentaries, had numerous interviews with Brandon, etc. Basically had the ultimate DVD in mind before the current one came out, but the producers didn't want to work with him on it.

I was just curious if anyone had run across one from another region that he may have been involved in.

I've never seen or heard of director's cut being released. Crow: City of Angels however has a director's/workprint version that is very rare. It was shown on PPV a few times and never released on home video. Some people have vhs copies of it. I've been trying to track one down for a while with no luck. Its supposed to be far superior to the original version.

That sounds intriguing. COA was very stylish and unique like the first film, but it did have some flaws. It would be interesting to see.

Hey Alex,
I was wondering why a director cut of The Crow hasnt been released yet. Its coming onto the 10th year anniversary of the film and there are still loads of unseen footage waiting to be seen. Mr. O'Barr himself said that "Because we wont get to see another frame of footage from Brandon, that fact alone should be enough to release a Directors Cut of the original film." Maybe you can explain to me why this hasnt been released yet, or if you have plans to release a DC could you please post back.
Thanks for reading,
Nate

Pretty unlikely. Truth is I've never actually been asked, though even if I was I think I would find the process of going back over the material, and re-living Brandon's loss, too painful.

I saw COA in the theatres a few times and if I'm remembering correctly, the ending for the theatrical version differed slightly from the ending I saw on the rental VHS and on the DVD I have. Is that the rare one you're referring to - the theatrical version? The retail VHS and DVD were the same, other than the VHS also included the music videos. There are also some deleted bits not on either DVD or VHS that were on an Interactive Crow CD that was around when the movie came out.

I really enjoyed that film. I know it was panned by a lot of people but if you just took it for its own merits, it was a good storyline and I thought Vincent Perez did a great job.

IMDB used to have a good list of what was in the work print of COA. If it's still there, you should check it out. It would have made for a better film.

I felt ripped off with the video version because I saw no difference in the so called director's cut.

As for The Crow I really wish the bug up the producer's ass would get the bug out of its ass so we can finally see a director's cut.
