My most wanted game EVER: Twinkle Star Sprites 2!
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned Twinkle Star Sprites here before, probably as the great two-player versus game of all time. The only problem I really saw with the game was that it felt like kind of game that was the "ground-work" to where the sequel created gaming perfection. After 5 years or so I figured all hope was lost, even though it was ported to the Dreamcast I figured the game was a forgotten franchise buried under SNK's many, many fighting games.
Some time ago, SNK Playmore announced SNK Online Collection for the PS2; I think it was Last Blade, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves and Twinkle Star Sprites. Okay, I thought.. another port. But at least this time I can take my skills online to see if I was up to the Japanese players (we had a Neo Geo based arcade in Dallas for a while a few years ago and I was pretty much undefeated in Twinkle Star Sprites). I'm not sure how long ago that was announced, but I had forgotten about it. Well, it looks like somewhere in development it went from being another port to a full-blown sequel, and I couldn't be happier!!

Obviously, if you couldn't tell by the title, the game has insanely cute Japanese graphics. If you've never heard of the game before, think of it as a cross between a versus puzzle game and an old-school shooter. Lines of enemies fly down your screen much like something like Gradius. You shoot these down to create a combo causing attack fireballs to fly to your opponents screen. Your opponent can shoot your attack fireball or link it into another combo for a counterattack, in which you can counter back for special attacks or sending a boss character to deal with your opponent. Once you have two people who know how to play the game going at it the game gets fast and insane.
Anyway, I'm sure interest here will be minimal, but I know there are some Neo Geo junkies hiding out there (Squidget? Last Blade?) that might be interested. I'm also starting to think my import PS2 collection might eventually pass my domestic collection at this point.

TSS is one of my favorite Neo Geo games for sure (one of the reasons I am keeping my trusty Neo Geo system). The 2 player competitive shooting/puzzle-like action is addictive and unique. I am looking forward to this sequel for sure!

awesome.
I just played TSS for the first time last week at an arcade about 30 minutes from where I live. So fun, very addicting.

/offtopic. Does anyone know where I can pick up of copy of TSS for the Neo Geo MVS? I've checked ebay once a week for the past few months and never seen the cart.
Thanks,

You'd have to go through a deputy service to bid on it, but ever after deputy fees I'm sure it'll be less than what it'll fetch on eBay. If you're not familiar with this process, check out www.shoppingmalljapan.com, that's who I use for my Y!J stuff and they're pretty good.

It's odd though.. the Saturn version had some (very little) extra stuff added to it and the Dreamcast version was a straight port. Which isn't all that bad since the added Saturn character was annoying and cheap as hell. I'll finally have the chance to give the new game a good multi-player spin this weekend as last weekend was pretty booked.

Here's a post from last month of SNK's forums.
Two days ago I was shocked and delighted to find that EBGames.com had Twinkle Star Sprites listed for the PS2 for a November 15th release. Gamespy, IGN, and 1up.com confirm the November area as a US release date.
Today EBGames.com took down their Twinkle Star Sprites page. I e-mailed them and they gave me a form letter that said they may be changing information.
I e-mailed SNKPlaymore and they sent me this response:
"Not coming to USA. We considered it but it will not happen."
This was the entirety of the e-mail.
