What kind of connection are you using between your player and TV? Have you set your player to output using that type of connection?

I would check your s-video cable for a broken pin then.

Just to make sure, you might want to verify your player has s-video output set instead of component.

When I plug in RCAs (Red/White/Yellow) and put my TV on S-Video it comes in black/white. That's the only thing I can think of.
