2 Versions. A One Disc and a Three Disc. Alas, no English Subtitles (but that's to be expected).

Just ordered the 3 disc set! Thanks for the heads up! CDJapan doen't have it up yet which surprises me. I usually get all my Gojira films from them so this will be a first.
Thanks Nissl I'm pre-ordering through CDJapan so that I can use some of my frequent shopper points. Now to cancel the Amazon.JP order.:D

Finally, I can fill that empty slot in my Godzilla Final Box set. ;)
Any news on an R1 release of this?
No firm news, but end of the year is my bet. (possible late summer theatrical release?).
I'm very tempted to pick up the SE. Even though it doesn't have subs, I seriously doubt that the R1 release will have as much supplementary material. It was a very cool movie and a nice "ending" to the series, and I really want to see it again, so I'll probably get this.

Would I be right in assuming that a HK release can't be far behind & would most likely include english subs? I think this happened with Godzilla against Mechagodzilla.

Don't forget that almost none Kitamura movie has been released on DVD in HK yet (his segment of Jam Films has)!

So you guys are buying the movie -- even though you don't understand Japanese?

Have any of you guys buying the movie actually seen it? It's actually quite terrible. There isn't a thread of a story to be found.

I saw it, and it was far from "terrible". Granted, I saw it without English subs, and my understanding of Japanese is not much better than beginners level, but I wouldn't say the film had no story. Although the film has alot of kaiju in it, it isn't even close to a wall to wall monster battlefest. In fact, most of the fight scenes are over rather quickly, and some kaiju are barely seen at all. If anything, that's more of a complaint from me.

An HK release is likely in the fall. On the plus side, it would have English subs and be much cheaper. On the minus side, it will probably have no extras, and the video and audio will most likely be inferior.

Let me clarify, I am fluent in Japanese (I'm a half-breed)...and the story is atrocious. But the action is okey-dokey.

In which case one could also argue that all Kitamura films released in Japan have English sub-titles... there is a first time for everything.
Besides, it is the studio owning the rights to Godzilla films that controls their release to DVD in the various regions... therefore, as previous recent Godzilla films have been released in HK, there is a very good chance Final Wars will follow suite.

As you all know, All of the R2 Goji discs sport only the Japanese subtitle track however, I noticed on the list of approved supplements for this set as shown at www.dvdanswers.com that the subtitles are Japanese and TBA so hopefully English subs are soon to be announced and we'll get them on this release.

Ah, found the answers at tokyomonsters.com:
Toho have released information on the home video release of 2004's "Godzilla: Final Wars" in Japan. Following suit of the previous Millennium releases (sans "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla"), the film will be released as a 3-disc Special Edition set. Disc 1 contains the main film presented in anamorphic widescreen, with Dolby Digital EX 6.1 tracks of both the original and dubbed audio soundtracks (the original track retains Don Frye's and the other English speaking characters' lines in their original form, whilst the dubbed version has them dubbed into Japanese). Also included on this first disc is an audio commentary and the original theatrical trailer. Disc 2 contains the regular haul of bonus features; a collection of TV spots, a "Making Of" featurette, KBC's behind the scenes special, extensive image galleries and more. Wrapping it all up, Disc 3 contains a special documentary about the 50-year long history of the Godzilla franchise.

THanks for the news on the supplements. Unfortunately they also state that English subs will not be included on this set. Still gonna get it but it would have been nice to include them on this "final" set.
