[self-promotion]

If anyone here reads Inside Lacrosse magazine, an article I wrote about the First Four here in southern California appeared in the most recent issue. I'll have another one about a Cali program sometime in April.

Are any of the men's programs out in California considering going varsity?

Mon 3/28, (9)Notre Dame 11, Villanova 7 - After three unanswered goals by the Wildcats in the third period, it looked as though Villanova (5-3) was on the verge of rallying from a large halftime deficit. However, a six-goal margin proved to be too much to overcome, and No. 9 Notre Dame (5-1) hung on for an 11-7 victory during a heavy rainstorm at Villanova Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Tue 3/29, (5)Army 11, Hofstra 10 - John Walker scored a career-high five goals and Adam Fullerton registered a career best 11 saves to lead No. 5 Army to an 11-10 victory over No. 11 Hofstra at wind-swept Michie Stadium on a cool Tuesday evening. It marked Army's third win over a ranked opponent this season.

(2)Duke 21, Mount St. Mary's 5 - The second-ranked Duke Blue Devils improved to 10-0 -- setting school records for wins to open a season and consecutive victories -- with a 21-5 triumph over visiting Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.

(8)Syracuse 13, Hobart 12 - The 12th-ranked Hobart College lacrosse team rallied from three goals down to tie eighth-ranked Syracuse at 12-12, only to have the Orangemen respond with a late goal to escape McCooey Field with a 13-12 victory. First-year Greg Niewieroski scored what proved to be the game-winner with 4:13 remaining and senior goalie Jay Pfeifer made it stand up with two of his career-high 21 saves in the final minute.

LB: Winning goal was scored on a possession that was given due to a flying fish!

If you want to see the "flying fish" (and the rest of the game wasn't bad either.) the game is scheduled to be shown on CSTV this Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm ET. (Unfortunately thats right at the same time as the Navy-Georgetown game which is LIVE on ESPNU. There is a replay of the Syracuse-Hobart game scheduled for CSTV at 3:00 am ET on Sunday morning.)

So Syracuse!!

Edit: Forgot about the whole setting clock ahead so the replay of Syracuse-Hobart is actually scheduled for 3:00 am ET on Sunday morning.

Very few. There are some DIIIs (Whittier being the biggest name), and Notre Dame de Namur is going DII next year (5-1 in DII-level games this year), but it's still a lot of club ball. It's kind of the missing link - starting next year, the entire state will have the option to play HS varsity lacrosse (Southern Section is the last to grant varsity status), and there'll be pro outdoor lax to match the indoor teams (Anaheim Storm, San Jose Stealth).

I'm not sure we'll see the big DI's (UCs, USC, etc.) at the varsity level any time soon.

Props to Hopkins on an undefeated season.

Props to Duke for coming out of nowhere to have an amazing season.

Duke didn't score after that point (over 27 minutes) and barely even got a shot on goal.

 Love how Auburn fans find even the most remote of sports threads to trash 'Bama. Well done

As for the match itself, I watch the sport whenever I can. Always wish it would have caught on in Indiana 20 years earlier because I would have been all over this sport. Started watching the match as the 3rd quarter started and was amazed at how JH thoroughly put the clamps on Duke over the last 27 minutes. Seemed the Dukies started running clock off just a wee bit early.

I will say this, it NEVER gets old watching Duke lose, no matter the sport or the stakes. Well done, Blue Jays.

Jays win! Jays win! :)

As great as the Championship game was, the drama at the end of the Hopkins-Virginia semifinal was even greater. If you missed it, the score was tied 7-7 with three minutes left with the Cavs holding the ball for the last shot. They shot and scored what was supposedly the winning goal with 0:07 on the clock. They celebrated (who wouldn't) and settled down for what should have been the final faceoff. They even put two long sticks in the box to slow down any chance of a Hopkins fast break if the Jays won the ball.

Hopkins won the face off, they beat the long sticks and broke into the defense. A quick pass to a forward, who one-timed it past the Virginia goalie, and it was tied 8-8 with 0:01 on the clock. Both teams would get a posession before Hopkins tallied the winning goal in OT. Jays 9, Cavs 8.

A forward? It's an attackman. He didn't one time it past the goalie. He put a move on the defenseman and took a pretty bad angled shot that beat the goalie.
