Jaws rerelease 6/14/05 (with mono audio track included)

From DVD Times here:

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition for 14th June 2005 priced at $22.98 SRP. Steven Spielberg's monster classic resurfaces on DVD to celebrate its 30th Anniversary coming to us as a two-disc set packaged with a Commemorative Photo Journal.

Exact details on what additional bonus features we can expect over the current release are yet to be revealed, though it seems like wishful thinking that we'll finally see the full-length making of documentary from the Laserdisc edition on the bonus disc. Arriving in separate Widescreen and Full Screen editions, both are packed with language options which include English 2.0 Mono, 5.1 Surround and 5.1 DTS Surround alongside French and Spanish 5.1 Surround tracks. The standard subtitle options of English, French and Spanish languages will also be available.

so it seems like many of the purists will be all over this release.

I will eventually pick this up from Columbia House, since I do not have the current version.

from http://www.thedigitalbits.com

The second disc will be all extras (no word yet on what they are). Word is you'll also get something called Jaws: The Commemorative Photo Journal - probably a commemorative book. This 2-disc set will also be available in a full frame version, and it looks as though a single-disc Jaws: Anniversary Collector's Edition version will also be available in full frame and anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 and anamorphic widescreen with DTS 5.1 (SRP $14.98). So let's get this straight... there are 5 DVD versions in all. 2-disc Wide (DD/DTS), 2-disc Full (DD/DTS), 1-disc Full (DD), 1-disc Wide (DD) and 1-disc Wide (DTS). Whew

I wonder if there will be additional clean-up to the video transfer.

Since I hadn't repurchased the current Jaws DVD I'll wait for this. I just wish the entire laserdisc documentary would be included.

Excellent news!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Original mono baby..yesss

I won't completely retire my laserdisc set though. It's too cool looking to get rid of. But at least it was bought for almost the same price as the dvd(when originally released) and has kept me company over the years whenever I wanted to watch the film with the correct audio. I can't see parting with it,just yet.

The additional special features will be the deciding factor for me...

I already own the single-disc DTS DVD, and I burned the entire 2-hour laserdisc documentary contents to DVD-R, thus making my own 2-disc set. There will have to be a lot of goodies on this upcoming second disc to get my $$.

The mono mix is how many of us remember the film. And it won an Oscar. Many of the effects were changed in the 5.1 mix.

I like that they are including the mono mix, but I don't like that they are also including 3 Dolby Digital tracks and 1 DTS track on the same disc. Just say no to foreign language tracks.

I find it hard to believe that someone can have a memory of mono mix soundtrack and still find it preferrable to a well-done remastered track.

Gotta get it.

Back before DVD existed I only owned a few movies on VHS. They got me to double dip on video. First release then a cleaned up release.
