The Shield - Walt Goggins...born in 1971??

Walt Goggins as Det. Shane Vendrell...this cat is only 33 years old?? This has to either be a misprint on IMDB, or I just can't judge age any longer.

Anyone else surprised? Doesn't he look a lot older than 33?

I'm not surprised by his age - he looks 33 to me, give or take.

Now, Lem on the other hand...

I know. I was also born in 1971 and I think he seems a lot older to me.

This reminds me of a funny story. I was recently surprised to learn that Lance Armstrong is also my age. I remember thinking, "That's weird, he looks so much older, kind of gaunt, sickly..." and then I was like "DUH, he survived cancer."

So you're saying you didn't believe him as a high school student in the Next Karate Kid?

And he has an Oscar, just like his Next Karate Kid castmate Swank

The only trivial thing about him is that his real first name is Jr.

The Awards & Nominations section for him on IMDB is grayed out, so I'm guessing...no Oscar.

The same month The Shield premiered in 2002, he went on stage and accepted an Oscar.

He was up on stage, but for some reason he wasn't one of the "official" winners.

Well, The Shield is a TV show, so it couldn't be eligible for an Oscar. It was nominated for Emmys and Golden Globes, and won both - for actor Michael Chiklis. If Shane was up there to accept, it was just another "chuckleheaded" move.

He was the Producer of (and appeared in) the Best Live Action Short for 2002: The Accountant.

imdb lists the Oscars as only being awarded to the Director & Executive Producer, but that may be a mistake if 3 people went up and got 3 statues. I'm guessing, however, that 3 people went up and got 2 statues...

Was it for his turn as a gay drifter in Red Dirt with Karen Black?

Hey, I knew he looked familiar!

Red Dirt's a great movie, by the way, *if* you watch it as a bad Tennessee Williams spoof.

The real Lem has lived quite a hard life, so no, he doesnt look his actual age of 19.

Believe it or not .. IMDB lists his age as ... HOLY CRAP .... 27 !!!

For all the doubters, here's Cletus Van Damme at the Oscars:

As you can see, there's three winners but only two statues. Goggins must not have qualified for some reason.
