I'm a big fan of the movie U-571, and after my friend borrowed my DVD, he was telling me about a book he's reading about the discovery of a U-boat off the coast of NJ in the early 90's: Shadow Divers, by Robert Kudrow. I picked it up from the library the other day, and haven't been able to put it down!

If anyone is looking for a good read, I highly recommend it- it don't read like a history book; it's really written as a story. (I usually prefer fiction for my casual reading. This is the first non-fiction book I've read in a long time)

Let me know if any of you check it out!

great book. If you're interested in the WWII genre, I would suggest:

Ghost Soldiers
The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom by Slavomir Rawicz

Saving Big Ben: A historical novel : the saga of the USS Franklin, the most decorated ship in naval history

Lucky Lady: The World War II Heroics of the Uss Sante Fe and Franklin (my great uncle was a crew member of the Franklin)

Foot Soldier: A Combat Infantryman's War in Europe big

and of course Band of Brothers, Citizen Soldiers, and D Day: June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World War II by Stephen Ambrose.

Band of Brothers.

After seeing the series I picked up the book by Ambrose and it was amazing.
