Julie Delpy trashes Beyonce's Oscars performance

[They should do away with the song part of the Academy Awards. It's the most boring part of the show and this year's was a total disaster. First that Spanish guy got all pissed off because he couldn't do his own song and now the French are annoyed at us (nothing new there, but still...)]

Julie to Beyonce: Hit the chemin

By Inside Track

Friday, March 18, 2005 - Updated: 12:00 PM EST

JULIE DELPY was not a fan of Beyonce's Academy Awards rendition of "Vois Sur Ton Chemin"' from the French film, "Les Choristes."' "Beyonce singing in French - she sounds like she's singing in Chinese. I swear to God, to French people watching that, it was like being stabbed in the heart," the French-born "Before Sunset"' actress told Empire at its annual awards bash. "It was like she was paid by (President) Bush to sing badly in French." She may be onto something: Paging Michael Moore!

It was a pretty lame line, but it seems to me that it refers to the strained relations and even antagonism between the U.S. and France over the last few years. I'm a li... I mean progressive, and I have a pretty negative image of the French.

Aww, man. I just realized I've been confusing Julie Delpy and Juliette Binoche for a long time.

Her comments are probably justified. I'm sure Beyonce singing a french song in french was to the french the equivalent of William Hung singing anything in english to us. Plus - beyonce sucks.

Do people relly call you filmmaker in real life. I figured that was just a name made up for these internet boards. Interesting.

I was thinking about this today. I didn't care for the song but don't have any venom over it. It sounded ok to me. I mean I heard this one song for anime maybe a 50 or 60 times but didn't know words were in english to half way through the series. Still liked the song. If we got rid of every song that eff up the english language rappers and rockers would be out of business.

So, the real question is....

....after hearing that song, how many French surrendered?

Seriously, it probably would have been good to get someone who knew the language to sing the song.

I've got news for her. It wasn't nearly as painful as watching her trying to act in "American Werewolf In Paris."

It doesn't take much to get the French to surrender.

For those of you who think the song wasn't bad or this is blown out of proportion there was another thread about it with quite a few people hating on her singing of the song. http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...beyonce+oscars

It was goddam awful. Let me quote myself:

My sister-in-law was putting my nephew to bed and I was in the bathroom, so we both missed the presentation and the beginning of that song. So, I get back to the living-room, sit down and start watching and immediately go "what the f*** is she signing and what frigging language is that?". At which point my sister-in-law enters the living-room and I ask: "What is she singing?". To which she replies: "I think that's the song from "Les Choristes". I went: "Is she singing in french???". She said: " I guess...". Note that both of us are french speaking and neither one of us could make out a single french word during the entire song. She might as well have been singing in Swahili.

I was just annoyed that virtually EVERY song had to be done by Beyonce.
