Have they announced the date for ticket sales to begin? on the net?

Im curious because I am wanting to get tickets to the DLP theater and I know they go quick. I want to add a reminder to my calendar.

Any info is appreciated.

Not sure yet; it seems quite early still, but I expect early April would be a good time to check.

usually the earliest you can buy tickets is a week in advance.

talking about DLP, the Merrifield National Amusement theatre in VA, is in a sucky auditorium, sucky seats, sucky sound.

I plan on seeing this at the DC areas only other DLP theatre - the Loews Rio in Gaithersburg Maryland.

For Episodes I and II it was earlier than 1 week. It may have been 1 month, depending on the theater and theater chain.

No, I remember that with TPM and AOTC, it was about 3 weeks to a month early I believe.

I just thought that maybe they had announced a specific date for sales.

If you live in/near a major city, you may also want to check at StarWars.com to see if there is a charity screening. Lucas is releasing it a week early to select charity screenings, just like he did with Episode II. The tickets will be a bit more than $10 (more like $250), but the money goes to local youth charities.

I already have tickets to see Episode III. On May 12. ;)

Or...you know someone who will get advanced tickets anyway...and see it for free a week before. :)

But yeah, I was wondering this myself since I will definitely be there at midnight. Last time, they were on sale at least a month beforehand here in NYC.

Yeah, there are very few DLP theaters in the country. I think less than 30 (i remember from a Ebert review).

AOTC first day tickets at the DLP here in the DFW area sold out very, very quickly.

If you buy them right when they go on sale, there shouldnt be a problem.

You're kidding right?

Advanced ticket sales for Episode 3 will start sometime in mid-to-late April. The midnight showings will go up for sale first with the later showings to go up sometime there after.

This is an event movie with tons of hype surrounding it, and we haven't had one as big as Episode 3 since The Matrix Reloaded.

[EDIT: Yeah, Spider-man 2 could be considered an event movie, but I remember being able to buy tickets for Reloaded over a month in advance unlike Spider-man 2. ;)]

not to go too off the tangent here, but I find it amazing that DLP isn't really catching on with theatres - is it still cost prohibitive? Here in the DC metropolitan area less than half a dozen new theatres have opened within the last three years and none (sans the AFI) have installed a DLP system, with such little support and the way things are progressing (or isn't in this case) digital projection will never succeed in my mind.

Has there been any rumours if Lucas is releasing a IMAX version of Ep III as well?

I think it is still too expensive.

The Cinemark Legacy theater in Plano has 2 DLP screens and thats it. It is the only one in North Texas.

It is simply unbelievable though. I have seen many, many movies there (like AOTC, finding nemo, pirates of the caribbean, troy and so on). It is a big difference!

I think I am going this weekend to see Robots.

After seeing those movies there, I bought myself a DLP tv. ;)

funny you should mention that, I was in New York City last weekend and while the Kips Bay theatre (DLP presentation of Robots) was a block away from where I was staying, I decided to trek on over to the Lincoln Square theatres to see Robots in the IMAX format - wow, now that was cool. (no Ep III trailer though).

This is pretty much why they haven't converted. The future isn't clear on where it will be going and theaters really don't have the money to invest in something that they are not certain will be the future.

well neither are the studios helping either. Fox, Warners, Disney... I think that's it.

And at this point of the game, I believe that Warner would rather concentrate more on IMAX-DMR releases than focus on DLP releases, especially since there are more IMAX theaters than there are DLP theaters at the current moment.

Not only that, I'm not a big fan of DLP. When you go to a theater that's projecting a flick in a film-type format (such as 35mm or IMAX-DMR), any seat in the house is technically a "good" seat. Whereas in a theater with DLP, the closer you get to the screen, the more it looks like a shitty big screen television. It's nice from a far, but far from nice.

Hmm, ive never sat on the front row of a DLP theater, but IMO, a DLP experience is better than IMAX. Ive been to both.

When I saw Troy in DLP, the colors were so amazingly bright and vibrant. And, the contrast between night and day scenes was really awesome. The day scenes were so bright and almost like you were watching it through a window.

IMAX to me was just a really big screen.

I do not think there is anything better out there right now than watching a digital movie in a DLP theater.

I believe the DLP screen here in DFW area is about 65-75 feet. Not sure about the IMAX one.

True, but it would depend on what the film was shot with, not what it was projected with. I personally think the mininum standards for digital needs to be 6k or even 8k. With the rapid explosion of progress with digital cameras and projectors, that should be the bare minimum.

Well, digital is coming. It's just a matter of time. Sony just released their new 4k digital projector, and Mark Cuban is outfitting all of Landmark Theater's 58 venues with these digital projectors. It won't come over night, but as more and more filmmakers shoot films digitally, they will come.

Unless things have changed(I haven't been to the movies for months) Loews Theatres at Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg Illinois has a dlp enabled theater. I saw The Incredibles and AOTC in dlp. Luckily, I am off work that entire day, so I can pick a time during opening day. Though, the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner for my wedding is that night. ;)

It may just depend on the theater. Sometimes, they have the times available and can sell them where some theaters aren't prepared. If it is a major chain, then they might be available. Ordering them online is probably your best bet.

What happened to the guys camping out in front of Graumans in Hollywood? Are they still there or did they jump across town? (For those who didn't see the story, Grauman's probably will not be opening Episode 3, but these guys have been camped out there for over a month.)

Jackskeleton
04-14-05, 12:23 AM
there is no probably about it. Fox striked the deal with arclight and Paramount booked Graunmans to show longest yard the following week, which would go against lucas' license agreement that the theater showing ep 3 would show it for 9-12 weeks min. They are still there and they are hoping that if they kick and scream enough that Graumens will show one midnight screening for them -rolleyes-

It's actually the best thing to come to the theater since stadium seating. No waiting in lines before the show, you can pick where you want to sit when buying a ticket and besides, there is not a bad seat in the entire Arclight theater. Every seat is golden. The screen could fall foward and still not touch the front row of seats. Though, I was under the assumption that the dome didn't have DLP. and the set up is a bit different.

I wonder if those guys at Mann's jumped on the Midnight showing at arclight?

If you'd seen either of the others there, you would understand. That's where all the hardcore fans see it opening night. And there's nothing more memorable than hearing 1200 people all screaming as the words "Star Wars' burst on the screen.

I hear ya. ...but you gotta believe your going to get a similar, if not, the same opening night experience in any big theater in NYC. So you miss out on the light saber duel that breaks out in the ticket holders line....

If your preordering tickets a month in advance for a midweek midnight showing....there will be plenty of cheering as soon as John William's score bursts through the theater speakers.

Im gonna order my tix in a couple hours to the DLP in Plano TX. They have them available, but I wanna go to the larger DLP screen. I need to call them first.

Im going right in the middle of the day on the 19th. Hopefully, it will be less crowded, but I will still get there about 1.5 to 2 hours early.

Got my tix for the noon show on opening day at a DLP theater!

Im not into the midnight showings. Did that for LOTR ROTK though.

I think there will be less people during the day. It will be nice to see it before the weekend crowds! Ill avoid the theater for a while after that.

Yeah, my experience with the midnight show of ROTK was ok....VERY LONG LINE already at 2 hours before the show. BUT, the 12:01am and 12:02am were non-existent. We would have been first in line for those showings!

hey can someone clear some stuff up for me since i've never bought tickets online or seen a movie on a digital projector.

first, how do i know what theaters have a digital projector? i am in the orange county, california area. i saw on starwars.com the closest one listed for epii was:

Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 & IMAX
65 Fortune Drive
Irvine, CA 92618

so could i assume they will have epiii on a dlp?

second, i see show times for wednesday, may 18th at 12:01am. this hurts my head. does that mean they are showing it a full day early... as in 2 minutes after the end of tuesday, or is this some new retarded way of saying they are showing it at the start of the 19th actually? it clearly says the 18th though!

So far Irvine only has midnight showing for three theaters, #1, #10, and #21. A midnight showing for the DLP theater (#17) hasn't been listed yet, but will probably be listed in the upcoming weeks. Even though it states the 18th, it will be playing at midnight on the 19th.

Just go to fandango change the date and you should see your Regal on there. At least it was that way in Austin.

I tired that, and the theater that says they will have it has not posted their date to sale tickets yet. I called them and they told me to keep checking back, but I thought there was going to be a date where all participating theaters were going to sell them at once.

UK to host 'Star Wars' marathon
All six films to run back-to-back in London
Wednesday, April 20, 2005 Posted: 9:56 AM EDT (1356 GMT)

"Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" will wrap up the six-film marathon. why play it out of order?

LONDON, England (Hollywood Reporter) -- Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox said Tuesday that they will unspool all six episodes of the "Star Wars" saga back-to-back for the first time May 16 in London's Leicester Square.

The "Star Wars" marathon will take place one day after the final installment, "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," marks its world premiere in an out-of-competition screening at this year's Festival de Cannes.

London's entertainment center plays host to large state-of-the-art theaters owned by the biggest players in the U.K. exhibition industry and is regarded by the industry and public alike as the No. 1 location to host high-profile movie events.

During the unique daylong Leicester Square extravaganza, London's premier theaters -- UCI Empire, the Odeon Leicester Square and Vue -- will unspool screenings of the previous five movies before the day culminates in the U.K. premiere of the sixth installment at the Odeon Leicester Square, the largest theater in the United Kingdom. Fans who have bought special passes for all six movies will be able to view "Sith" in the UCI Empire after the five previous movies.

Writer-director George Lucas and the stars of the movie, including Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid, are expected to jet in from the French Riviera to attend the May 16 premiere, organizers said.

Fans also will be able to attend special free performances of "Star Wars" music presented by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, while a host of stormtroopers will populate the square.

The sixth and final installment goes into general release in the United Kingdom, as well as the U.S., on May 19.

I plan on seeing this at Loew's Uptown, here in DC, however I'd prefer to see this in DLP which means either trekking over to Gaithersburg MD or Merrifield VA. I really don't understand how Loews can't or wont add a DLP system into the East Coast flagship theatre - the Uptown. (oh well, whatever).

Interestingly, the Senator up in Baltimore, as of April 14th, still hasn't received exhibition license for Ep III.

Anyone order DLP tickets from Fandango.com? I need your help if you did. I'm worried, here's the deal. I bought tickets for the dlp screening of EP3 for the right time and place. I made sure I selected the dlp tickets, not the regular film tickets. Once I completed my purchase, fandango allows you to print your tickets at home. I did. The ticket says I don't have to go to the box office, go directly to the ticket podium. I checked the printing and the time, date, and the place is all correct. The only thing is, the ticket doesn't say DLP, so when I take it to them, will they know to direct me to the dlp theater? There's a regular film version at the same time. I hope I have the dlp ticket. Any info from you experts I'd greatly appreciate. Thanks. :(
