Classic Japanese film fans - it's a good week
Today I received Kihachi Okamoto's The Sword of Doom (aka another Toshiro Mifune samurai film!) and Akira Kurosawa's Kagemusha. The Sword of Doom comes with a foldout insert that includes an essay and chapter listing. Kagemusha is in a double-alpha case and includes a 45-page color booklet with photos Kurosawa's paintings and interviews and essays. As a big Kurosawa & Mifune fans, today is like Christmas for me!

I'm looking forward to them too - Sword of Doom interests me because I enjoyed the first film in the Lone Wolf and Cub series. Also I've never seen Kagemusha before (hear its' very good though), and Seven Samurai/Yojimbo/Throne of Blood and the like (my other Kurosawa experiences) have either been greatly enjoyable (Throne, Yojimbo) or masterpieces (Samurai).

Can anyone confirm if Best Buy has Sword of Doom in stores today?I am skeptical about whether they will have it and i really don't feel like driving over there if they don't.

I haven't watched disc #1 yet (film + commentary), but I've spent a while with disc #2. This looks to be a fantastic set! to Criterion.

I would really like it if someone released some more Mizoguchi and Ichikawa on DVD.

Tokyo Shock/Media Blaster's R1 release of Matango is today as well. Next week, The Mysterians (although people have reportedly been able to purchase it already).
