Anyone picking this one up?

Rolling Stone and Blender gave the cd 4 out of 5 stars each, with R.S. calling it "Franz and the Ants".

I Perdict A Riot is a very catchy and addictive tune, and the video is on itunes and Real Player.

Picked up the 2-CD import. From one listen, I can say that it's pretty rockin!

They're on tour now, so I think I should jump on the opportunity to check them out in a small venue before Newsweek gets their review out...

I recently got a promo cd of this, although annoyingly tracks 5-7 won't play. However, I'm really enjoying the rest of it and since Best Buy is selling it for $6.99 this week, I'll probably just go out and pick up my own working copy. If anyone is curious, they sound like a cross between mid-period Blur and Franz Ferdinand.

It's pretty good, but we're getting close to the death of the retro 80s sound IMO. Tracks 1, 2, and 4 (iirc) are really good, though 4 sounds like a total QUOTSA ripoff.

Going to check them out live next week

I've only heard the (UK) single, "Oh My God". Very catchy, kinda like it.

Apparently, they are Paul McCartney's favourite band at the moment.

Blender gave them 4 stars and they tend to be kind of stingy handing out such praise.

I agree, what a fantastic album, I love I Perdict A Riot, for a debut album, I find it amazing that the songs are instantly memorable. I have to see them live - damn them for not stopping in DC during this week's uber-elite 5 city mini-tour.

Hey badlydrawnboy, if your reading this, can you please please please let us know how tonight's SF gig is

I will indeed let you know.

it sounds like it should be good fun. they are doing an in-store and autographs at the virgin megastore in SF.

Kaiser Chiefs put on a very good show last night, they came on about 10:30 and played a too short set of about 45 mins.

Opened with na na na na na...
and progressed throught most of the album.

I predict a Riot went down as expected like a riot, but there was an issue with the keyboards, so they played it twice. which was cool. Although the drummer looked a bit pissed off at the attention the keyboard player was getting.

The guitar was also way too loud for the vocals, guitar player turned it up after about 2 songs.

they have quite a good presence on stage, and the place was packed to the rafters.

I'd be all up for seeing them again but they were already quite confident.

the support act were a local band called the lovemakers who have just signed to Interscope and dave stewart is producing there first major label release. They were absolutely brilliant.

go to www.thelovemakers.com and d/l a couple of mp3s...

thanks Badlydrawnboy for the review of the show

have any more pics from the show?

No more pics I stole that one from the official webpage message board.

the drummer and bass player came out after the show and hung out for a while, before slims threw us out, nice people, although the drummer would not leave the stage, kept that barrier there.

the bass player was wandering around, and even had his own sharpie for autograpghs

Yeah those guys are really good. I missed the show cause it was sold out but I've seen other performances and they kick butt. Definitely one of the better albums of the year! http://www2.fanscape.com/timg/msgbrd/KAISERCHIEFS/20050323_DVDTalk-Kaiser-Chiefs-Main.gif

It's pretty good, but we're getting close to the death of the retro 80s sound IMO. I felt like that when listening to the Futureheads for the first time. And it saddened me a little bit because I have waited forever and ever for this kind of sound to finally come back. Having said that, I like this KC album very much. "I Predict A Riot" is just about a perfect song and fits in great with my new wave folder of mostly early 80's songs.

Yeah I think this sound has been gone for a while but it's making a comeback and the bands are quality. I think the next single "Every day I love you less and less" is AWESOME! The chorus is really hyped and just really cool. http://www2.fanscape.com/timg/msgbrd/KAISERCHIEFS/20050324_DVDTalk-KC-Main-reply.gif

Saw them live last night, very entertaining show. They only play for about 45 minutes, but bands like that are sometimes best in small doses. I'm pretty sure they didn't play more than 7 or 8 songs. The singer is pretty magnetic for being such a normal looking guy. There were plenty of diehard KC fans there, the singer ended up riding into the crowd at one point and tossed the mike to the fans at another.

he did the same in SF, when he tossed the mic in the crowd were way off with the timing.

and the crowd surfing was cool.

I caught these guys in Hoboken last night, and they put on a hell of a show. Though, my only complaint is the fact that their set was a little under 45 minutes...it took them longer to take the stage than it did for them to finish their set! But these guys were so full of energy, so it was a bit easier to forgive them for the wait.

The best part of the show was where the singer went into the crowd and walked up to a guy, asked him why he wasn't clapping his hands, and then he grabbed his arms and clapped his hands for him, spilling the guy's drink everywhere. Then, after they finished the song, the singer walked up to the guy and asked him to tell everyone what he told him after he made him spill his drink. This dude was clearly pissed, but the singer guy was very apologetic. After the singer gave the guy his beer, he continued to apologize to this guy throughout the rest of the set, and he eventually went back to the guy and let him sing along to "I Predict a Riot." It all went over very well, and totally made the show much more memorable.

I heard that the setting up took a long time too but the performance was well worth the wait. THe guys kicked butt. Does anyone know if they are playing any festivals other than European dates though? Sometimes those extra dates are unknown. I didn't see anything on the site but I figured some other KC fans would know.
