Can pick up dust if you leave the case open while you're watching, or from the disk tray of your DVD player. Can also pick up scratches when you put it on the disk tray and while it's spinning during playback. Also, if it's like an Amaray case, the disk often rattles as you move the case, so it can pick up little marks.

Exactly. That's what the hole in the middle is for.

I keep all my DVDs scratch free by never opening them.

mine are stored in a hermetically sealed titanium vault inside of NORAD. i go to visit there like once or twice a year to open a few and watch them.

it taks a small man with a lot of guts to admit to that.

some discs have scratches even if they're factory sealed. It's usually do to manufacturing defects or careless factory workers.

I never noticed the extent to which this is true until recently. I used to only check a DVD for scratches if I found it loose on the hub or something obvious, but now I check all of my new purchases for damage. It's ridiculous, I'm almost guaranteed on a box set to find at least 1 disc that has scratches, fingerprints, etc.

Yeah...I thought I kept my DVDs in pristine condition...well I searched all my discs and wow did I find dust and scratches....I am shocked....Guess I will have to clean my entire room and rid it of dust!
