Blind Justice **Series Premiere** - 03/08/05

"Pilot"

From Steven Bochco Productions comes an innovative take on the modern police drama.
Spoiler:
The lead character, New York Detective Jim Dunbar, was blinded in a shootout when his partner failed to cover him. He could have retired with a full pension after his injury, but instead fought to remain on the job, determined to prove he still has what it takes and be an asset. Now, following his reinstatement, he is assigned to a new precinct where he intends to take on cases with the help of his guide dog, Hank.

Though all the detectives are impressed by Dunbar's heroism, demonstrated during the events that led to his being blinded, they are angry he has returned and incredulous at his belief that he can still work the streets and carry a loaded gun.
Adult Situations.

"Hey, do you smell that? A window is open somewhere."

"Um, yeah we saw that right over here."

"Shhh, I hear something. It's a rumbling noise. Oh my god!!! I think there's been an explosion!!!"

"Um, Jim, I had Mexican last night. Sorry."

"Oh yeah, that makes sense. Say, do you smell that gas leak? Call the Fire department."

"Jim!"

"Sorry, I forgot for a second."

I have just the opposite reaction. It looks like it might actually be a decent show.

This is going to be awful. I watched House of Sand and Fog Sunday and all I could think about was his blind ass. He was an awful cop in that movie, and this will be an awful show about him being an awful cop.

I'm already so sick of the preview that I have ZERO interest in the show.

His blind character in Armageddon was bad enough.

Hold on, they are letting a blind man carry a loaded guy? WTF?

No interest whatsoever. Maybe if I hadn't seen 50 billion previews for it.

I don't think a sighted guy should be carrying a loaded guy either.

I'm going to watch it just for that speech I saw on the previews. Sounds like a real hoot.

I'll give it a whirl, but with the departure of Blue, SVU now gets priority viewing. Probably won't get to this until the weekend.

I think I'm going to pass on this show. The previews are just so damn cheesy and heavy-handed..."He lost his sight, but not his vision." Oooooooh...

Nobody believes in Jim Dunbar...except himself

I'm not sure if I'll check this out or not. If Bochco wasn't involved I wouldn't bother. The commercials for this have been too cheesy.

'Blind Justice' a must-see?

Just because ABC's "Blind Justice" is from the same creative team behind "NYPD Blue" - Steven Bochco and Bill Clark ...

Just because "Blind Justice" has the Tuesday at 10 p.m. slot (starting this week) occupied by "Blue" for 12 years ...

Just because "Blind Justice" uses the same L.A. set created for "Blue"...

Don't call it "NYPD Blind." Please.

The show stars Ron Eldard as an NYPD detective who refuses to let his handicap - he was blinded in the line of duty - keep him from being a cop. Marisol Nichols plays his reluctant partner and Rena Sofer is his wife, who is becoming reluctant herself.

"'NYPD Blind' - I certainly was not interested in that," quips Eldard. "'NYPD Blue' - great show, but I've already watched it. And [Bochco] promised me that's not what [this] is about."

Not only have Bochco and Clark given Eldard's character a Seeing Eye dog, they've also put a gun in his hand. "If [viewers] are worried about the gun," Eldard says, "then we've failed. It means we're just a cop show about a blind guy."
Yeah, so STFU!

For a guy who has had limited success he comes of as a dick

"If [viewers] are worried about the gun," Eldard says, "then we've failed. It means we're just a cop show about a blind guy."roftl
Considering that's how ABC is marketing it that quote is hilarious.

Innovative? Maybe back in '71 when James Franciscus and Bruce Lee were in Longstreet.

I've got an innovative idea for a series about a detective in a wheelchair that I need to shop to the networks.

I've loved Ron Eldard since Men Behaving Badly, so I'm gonna give it a chance. It actually looks sort of interesting to me. Then again, I rarely watch any of those cop or detective shows, so I don't know how long I'll actually last.
