Cell phones and dial tones - huh?
Anyone else's eye twitch or teeth grind just a little when, in a movie, someone hangs up on a guy on a cell phone and he almost instantaneously hears a dial tone? Whuh?
Firstly, if he would hear a dial tone, it wouldn't happen right after he hangs up. Secondly, YOU DON'T HEAR A DIAL TONE ON A CELL PHONE!
It's almost just as irritating that this happens in reverse...guy on cell phone hangs up, then guy on landline almost instantly hears a dial tone.
Directors and sound effects guys are either A) really, really stupid, or B) think the audience is so dumb that we need audible clues - even if they're factually and technically inaccurate.
Yeah - maybe this is a petty complaint, but damn if it doesn't irritating the living snot outta me when I see it in a movie (like in Cellular last night--not that this is the only movie I've seen it occur in by far).
Rant over. Thanks for letting me share.
