I'm eating up the WB Gangsters Collection box set, and am wondering if any more classic gangster pictures are out on DVD. I'm not talking about the Godfather or anything like that, but the good old gangster pictures that were prominent in the 30's and 40's. I also have High Sierra and Key Largo, but that's about where my collection stops.

There are a number of gangster films from the '30s and '40s on DVD, and many more that I am still hoping will be released. Below is a varied list of filims worth looking into.
Scarface, Shame of a Nation (1932)
Dead End (1937) --Rel. date Mar. 8
Pepe le Moko (1937) --Highly recommended DVD from Criterion
You Only Live Once (1937)
Prison Train (1938)
This Gun for Hire (1942)
Angel on My Shoulder (1946)
The Killers (1946)
Body and Soul (1947)
Dead Reckoning (1947)
Railroaded (1947)
They Made Me a Fugitive (1947)
Call Northside 777 (1948) --Rel. date Mar. 15
The Naked City (1948)
Raw Deal (1948) --Any Anthony Mann film from the '40s is a sure bet; unfortunately they are somewhat hard to find.
T-Men (1948) --Again, a classic Mann film
Criss Cross (1949)
Force of Evil (1949)
Gun Crazy (1949)
He Walked by Night (1949)
Panic in the Streets (1949)--Rel. date Mar. 15
Night and the City (1950)--Jules Dassin film released recently by Criterion
The Overlook Encyclopedia to Gangster Films is an excellent guide for this genre. Very comprehensive and well worth the money.
So in other words, aside from noirs, there's next-to-nothing out there? I'm already very well-versed in film noir, but I don't really consider many of those to be gangster pictures despite a lot of them involving gangsters. I was mostly referring to pre-noir films. Thanks for the help though.

Definitely check out the Criterion Collection double disc of The Killers. You get the 1946 version with Burt Lancaster, the 1964 version with Lee Marvin and another version, I believe a student film. The discs are well worth the price.

Maltese Falcon (VERY nice transfer for a fairly old film)
Once Upon a time in America (not older classic, but classic nevertheless).

Opps. I forgot he mentioned the box set in that thread. I will have to agree that there aren't many gangster flicks out there.
