Can't write a catchy tune...do what Sum 41 did...rip one off!

I always thought that the new Sum 41 song "Pieces" sounded a little too familiar. It's a chord for chord, break for break, chorus for chorus rip off of Coldplay's "The Scientist".

Check out this link to the mp3 that combines the two songs and hear for yourself.

Sum 41 plays Coldplay

First, That was pretty cool to hear both blended.

Second, That was pretty pathetic........but it doesn't surprise me.

I was thinking the same thing (similar songs) last night after watching Wicker Park. This is in addition to "The Bitter End" which contains several parts from Metallica songs.

I'd have to say that I still enjoy their music though.

Good God that is ridiculous. I mean, it's not just close, it's exactly the same.

On the new album, one of the songs is a direct note for note ripoff of a Metallica song ("Battery")

I have heard The Jets' song "Look What You've Done" and kept wondering why it sounded kind of familar. Then I realized that an important 2 lines are directly ripped from The Beatles' "Sexy Sadie" and repeated just like in Sadie.

The first part of Sublime's "What I Got" basically swipes the melody from The Beatles' "Lady Madonna" but I doubt Brad and co. gave credit where it was due. He was too busy playing his guitar like a motherf-in riot.

Uh...this melody was also ripped off from The Cranberries - "Zombie" and a bunch of Screaming Trees songs.

Melding the two makes both songs 100 times better.

Didnt Nickelback also do this? But at least they ripped off one of their own songs. Anyone have a link to that still?

hahhaha that nickelback one is so funny.....

Damn, I really liked that Sum 41 song and I thought they had matured from punk to a semi legitimate group. Well I guess I am wrong.

I love "We're All To Blame", both song and video. But I just gotta say it errile sounds identical to System Of A Down's "Chop Suey".

So many of these so-called musicians these days don't write a single note of their own music. It's possible Sum 41 has no clue about this. Hell, the two songs could have been written by the same guy for all we know. I'd be interested to see what the liner notes say for both of these songs.

That's still hilarious.

Though I wonder why people don't make fun of REM for doing the same thing with Everybody Hurts and Strange Currencies...
