Ive learned a lot from these boards, including, always buy WS versions! I might get a WS tv sometime, and dont wanna play FS movies on them! Plus you can see more of the movie ive heard on here.
My favorite kind of movie is Comedy. I also like Action/Adventure, and some Documentary's and Horror.
What are some good titles in those categories for a "just starting over" DVD collector?
Some of my main wants are..
Spoof Movies (ALL Of The Scary Movies, Not Another Teen Movie, etc.)
Meet The Parents (When does Meet The Fockers come out)
Old School
Dodgeball
Swingers
Scarface
Knockaround Guys

You can see more of the movie in widescreen??? Really??? Nooo....say it ain't so.
But seriously, in order to better recommend titles for you, a basic question is in order here. How old are you? You say you like comedies and some action/adventure and horror.
Do historical period pieces interest you? Like Troy, Gladiator, or Braveheart? Or war films? Like Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, or Enemy at the Gates?

About Spoof Movies, try Hot Shots, Hot Shots Part Deux, The Cheap Detective, Murder By Death, and Shaun of the Dead.
As for other genres, look into boxsets. They are generally cheaper than buying the titles individually. Try the latest Scorsese boxset.

For starters, take advantage of the great resources here at DVD Talk - such as the reviews. Here's a link to the review of Shaun of the Dead (and you can search for other reviews via the review seach at the top of this page):

You can't go wrong with Jim Carrey's older movies:
Dumb and Dumber
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The Mask
These are all relatively cheap. Also, pick up Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, an hilarious spoof of older kung-fu flicks.

I highly recommend:
Girl Next Door - Unrated
Mallrats
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Club Dread
And now some classics that I think everyone should see:
Once Upon a Time in the West ($8-$9 at stores, get it!)
Evil Dead Trilogy
The Thing
Good, Bad, and the Ugly
Indiana Jones Trilogy
I think all of the above you'd enjoy.

'Airplane!' is being re-released later this year in a special edition, so it would be a bad movie to buy at this time.

CLERKS should be right up your alley, and if you feel like getting a touch more serious, try Chasing Amy (both directed by Kevin Smith)

Favorite Kevin Smith movie: Dogma
All this talk about comedies and no mention of the Austin Powers movies. Those movies make me laugh so hard my stomach hurts.
Also, even though you're only 16, I'm sure your tastes are more adult (if u like the Scary Movie spoofs), so check out the season sets of South Park and "Team America" is coming out in May.

Film-noir is basically a film movement from the 40s-50s (although there were some noir before and after, this is the prime period). They often involve stark urban settings, seedy sorts of characters, crime, femme fatales, investigators, wrongly accused people, etc. The most famous are probably The Maltese Falcon and Double Indemnity. The latter is my favorite, but the DVD is poor and out of print.
