It was a very good year
When you look at your DVD collection, is there any particular year that seems to standout?
For some reason, I have a lot of movies from 1984. I was 13 at the time. Of my humble 88-title inventory, 13 are from that year:
Body Double
Cloak & Dagger
Footloose
Ghostbusters
High School Reunion (Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Sixteen Candles)
Hunter Season 1
Ice Pirates
Miami Vice Season 1
Purple Rain
Terminator
Karate Kid
Transformers Season 1
V The Final Battle

More EXCELLENT 1939 films: Gunga Din, Wuthering Heights, Of Mice and Men, Stagecoach, Good Bye Mr Chips, Roaring twenties, Beau Geste and Ninotchka.
There are plenty more, but not as good as these and the ones Bill Needle mentioned.

The year that the majority of my DVD's come from is 2002. In fact most of the movies I own are from the year 1999 and forward. I think this is because 1999 was the year I bought a DVD player and the majority of the movies I buy are new releases. I am just now starting to buy alot of the older movies that I have missed.

A lot of the old favs are ones I have "warm and fuzzy" memories of, ones I remember but haven't seen in a long time, or ones I see or saw on TV a lot and want to see unedited, in widescreen, etc.

Throwing out everything from the 90's on, I see 84 and 85 were big years for me with 9 and 11 respectively. I also have 5 films each in 41, 47, 49 and 79.
What's more interesting to me are the 0 years. Starting with 1927, I have no films from 1930, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1967 and 1980.

About a Boy
Bowling For Columbine
Catch Me If You Can
Frida
The Hours
Insomnia
The Kid Stays In The Picture
Standing In The Shadows Of Motown
Y Tu Mama Tambien
I also have Buffy, Season 6, which is credited to that year.
Interesting (to me, at least) that three of the four docs I own are on that list. The fourth is the Up From Zero freebie.
1999 was close with: Being John Malkovich, Election, Galaxy Quest, The Hurricane, The Matrix, October Sky, South Park:BLU, Three Kings, and, TVwise: Buffy, Season 3 and Freaks & Geeks.
