I Heart Huckabees SE glitch

This was mentioned in the Bargains forum, so I thought I'd bring it up here. My Huckabees SE has freezing problems in the last quarter of the film. I counted about 5 times that it occurred. One other person in the Bargain forum said his froze in the last 3 minutes of the film. Anyone else experiencing this? Maybe there's an authoring problem.

Haven't picked this up yet, but it can't possibly be just the SE, can it? I mean, disc one is the same in the regular and the SE, right?

What player are you using?

I was the dude from bargains that was having that problem. I exchanged it and will check the new version. Son of a bitch! Don't they test these things before they mass-produce them?

I was using a Philips 642, but if it has happened to more than one person, there's a safe bet that there are more out there. And yeah, it seems like something like this would be caught before mass production takes place. I couldn't believe the House of Flying Daggers R3 debacle.

You know, I didn't enjoy the movie that much anyway, and I'm kind of pissed off at myself for spending so much money on this SE. I'm hoping I can just get a refund if I can make them believe my story about there being a possible batch of defective discs, and I'd rather just wait until I hear of a repressing.

also, what is a scene where it stops for you all?

EDIT: I emailed fox at their "reporting defective disks" site:

I had the same problem with Ray: Limited Edition and Schindler's List; also two sided, dual layered discs. Immediately after the layer change, the discs would freeze and I would have to turn off the DVD player. (Same results on three different DVD players).

I just got my I Heart Huckabees: SE today. I skipped from chapter to chapter, waiting a few seconds after each skip, and I noticed nothing wrong my copy.

^ yeah, that's a lot of work to get something that you already paid for and should have been good in the first place.

Though the 2-sided Huckabees disc is single layered on each side, and I had no problems with mine - you might want to check your disc for lint, or something. There have been MANY times where I had a disc skip or freeze on me, only to discover a pice of lint, or hair, or something on the disc.

i would e mail them back and asked for a pre stamped pre addressed envelope....i also would tell them that isn't going to work. Make them send it, then don't mail in your disc.

or just take it back to the store

I'll check mine this weekend. After paying $29.99 "on sale", it better not have any problems.

Yes, mine is messed up.
It freezes at 1:33:37 on the widescreen side.
I tried it in four different DVD drives/players.
So, today I took it back and exchanged it for another copy.
The new copy HAS THE SAME PROBLEM.

AAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

How does this stuff keep happening? So annoying. You'd think they'd be extra careful checking these things before mass-releasing them to customers. I guess I'll hold off on buying IHH: SE until more people report.

I'm wondering if the non-SE version has the problem too.
From the description on the boxes, it sounds like Disc 1 in the SE is the same disc contained in the non-SE version. SE just has the 2nd disc of extras.

My copy arrived today. I hadn't even seen this thread and I was dismayed to see it was a double sided disk. I've had problems with these in the past from Fox. More so than any other company. Never used to have any problems at all with my old Sony DVD player, it used to play everything I threw at it. But my Panasonic seems to be quite fussy with Fox double-sided disks. I really hope my copy is okay as I really want to see it and a replacement will take weeks

why would they make the SE double sided....what full screen lover is going to dish out the extra cash for the bonus stuff....if you don't have sense to want to see the whole movie, then why would you want to watch ten extra dollars of special features....watching mine tonite....going to be pissed if it locks up

I don't know very much about DVD technical specs, but both sides of this disc are one layer. Why couldn't they just make it a dual layer and put both versions of the movie on the one side (one version on each layer)?

But yeah, the SE should have been a one-sided, dual layer, high quality version.
