Cinderella Platinum Edition --> 10/4/2005

I did not see a thread for this, but here is some news on this release.
http://www.dvdexclusive.com/article.asp?articleID=1950
Buena Vista will bring Cinderella to DVD for the first time Oct. 4, with a price of $30 for the two-disc platinum edition and $50 for the collector's gift set with a limited-edition book, character sketches by Disney animator Ollie Johnston and a numbered frame from the woodland flick.

Cinderella, which is undergoing the studio's painstaking visual and audio restoration process, hasn't been put out on video since the VHS release in October 1995.

Looks like we'll be waiting another year for The Little Mermaid. I was hoping it would come after Aladdin.

Yep, you're right:

Snow White - Platinum #1
Beauty and the Beast - Platinum #2
Lion King - Platinum #3
Aladdin - Platinum #4
Bambi - Platinum #5 (March 2005)
Cinderella - Platinum #6 (October 2006)
Lady and the Tramp - Platinum #7 (March 2006)
Little Mermaid - Platinum #8 (October 2006)
Jungle Book (2007)
101 Dalmatians (2007)

Over at ultimatedisney.com they list other films possibly rumored for the Platinum line:

Pinocchio
Fantasia
Sleeping Beauty (which is already available as a 2-disc)

They also speculate that the following will be released as part of a special 2-disc Collector's and/or Masterpiece series (I'm guessing these will be similar to how they did Mulan, Alice in Wonderland, etc.):

Pocahontas (May 2005)
Dumbo
Lilo & Stitch

I'm happy that they are releasing Cinderella.

However, looking at the rumoured release dates, it saddens me that I have to wait until 2007 for the Jungle Book Platinum edition

Yea... Cinderella won't be the crowning touch to my collection by any means, but those damn box sets they make are just gorgeous. I kinds wish Bambi had one just to continue the line.

Along that same note, anyone else find that having other platinum releases like Snow White, Beuaty & the Beast around make it easier to get girls? Maybe it's just me, but when girls come to my apartment and see that I have those, they always remark how cute it is. Now if that ain't off topic, I don't know what is.

Yeah, wasn't Lilo supposed to happen like two years ago? Ok, so maybe it was one, but still..

Until Eisner's gone, Disney's only hope of making any sort of a profit is revisiting the old flicks on DVD done wrong. Not like they have any original ideas on tap..

I could have sworn this was released when Disney released the "Gold Collection" way back when. Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway I can't wait to see this, there is a preview on the Bambi DVD coming out next Tuesday. I love these Platinum Edition movies, they are releasing all the classics! And I think Pinocchio would be a great selection for this series.

it wasn't....its the last of the disney theatrical feature length animated titles not to be released. Thought Boots were all over, same for bambi.

as far as that preview...you'll have to wait for the Pocahontus dvd...its not on the bambi dvd

I know they are releasing these faster that previously (because of HD-DVD/Blu Ray), but last 2006/2007 is still way too long to release some of these IMO.

It doesn't really matter though because blu-ray and hd-dvd aren't really going to become mainstream for a while.

Given "any edition" --- Cinderella finally completes all the Disney classic animation on DVD.
