Need help: Movies that depict domestic violence or abuse

My friends fiancee is doing research for school and I am trying to help them find movies that depict some sort of abuse. Spousal abuse whether physical or verbal. I assume either towards the man or the woman. I also assume any relationship - long term would do as people are not always married in movies or real life. Thanks for your help.

Errr, not really. I can only think of 2-3 instances. The most brutal scenes - tongue cutting, torturing that guy with needles, cutting that guy in half and tearing someone's arm off- all involved men. Besides, the parts involving woman weren't even examples of domestic violence.

Blue Velvet
I'll definitely second this one. Quite disturbing, and not even all that graphic.

Home Alone 1,2,3,4. Part 4 just for the hell of watching this crap, it's gotta count as "domestic abuse"...

I second Once Were Warriors. It is very graphic and often realistic in it's depiction on how spousal abuse affects everyone in the family.

Not that I doubt you, but could you refresh my memory? I haven't seen it in a year or more and don't really recall any rape.

the beginning of ichi has the main boss raping a prostitute and beating her to within an inch of her life while undressing her and taking his pants down...you can imagine what happens next. there is another scene in the middle of the picture with the same girl getting raped by a different guy. same content. latter in the film, during the "questoning" sequence a chick has her nipples stretched out and sliced with a thin knife. its a sick film.
