Obviously, since these have been out R2, a lot of the thread might be about the new dubs, or what was included on the R1s, or the quality of the R1s.
But also, probably some folks are seeing these for the first time as well.
So what did you think?
(I hope to get mine tomorrow.)

I personally love Porco Rosso.
Considering the main character having a pig's head, plus set in a Victorian time, the film for some reason has so much humanity in them. Though it has a lot of humour, you also end up feeling so much compassion for Porco Rosso as he is cursed.
How Miyazaki can bring a lot of emotional pull in his works, whether tragic or cheerful, is still a wonder to me...

I'm looking forward to Nausicaa most of all, but after reading the reviews at IGN, I'm not sure if I'll still pick it up...
Perhaps IGN got the early check disc copy or the reviewer was simply on crack.

Definitely looking forward to Nausicaa, will pick that up, though I may hold off on Porco Rosso for now. Chris Tribbey (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=14579) gave a positive evaluation over in the review section; even more reason to run to the store tomorrow. For those who have seen Porco, what are your thoughts on the film? How does it compares to Miyazaki's other works?

The front page of www.dvdtown.com has reviews of all three up. I'm thinking of buying Porco and Netflixing Nausicaa and Cat.

All you want to know about Miyazaki's works :)

Btw, The Cat Returns is not Miyazaki's work. It's Studio Ghibli's.

i might rent porco and nausicaa, but the return of the cat just looks too retarded for words.
'retarded' might be a tad harsh, but it's not all that. Whisper of the Heart which is a precursor to The Cat Returns is vastly superior. "The Cat Returns" is and was marketed to kids and even the animation/artwork is pretty subpar even by Ghibli standards. It's an interesting story, but ultimately pretty weak and forgettable.

I'm picking up Porco Rosso (not as good overall as prime Miyazaki, but still terrific) and Nausicaa (absolutely terrific hard core sci-fi) today. I've been waiting for years to get (legit) versions of these movies.

Me too (Nausicaa). This came out when I lived in Japan, so it has a special place in my heart.

Porco Rosso is a keeper. Its an entertaining and fun film, with a great sound track.
