View Full Version : First DVD watched on your new equipment

I know there have been multiple threads on the first dvd you ever watched but what about the first dvd you watched after upgrading a part of your home theatre.

I'm getting my Sony 50" LCD WEGA TV delivered today at 3. After setting everything up and setting the options the way I like them I plan to watch fight club.

What was the last thing you upgraded in your home theatre and what was the first thing you watched after the upgrade?

Fellowship of the Ring was the first flick I watched when I got my surround sound system set up.

The new Top Gun dvd was the first one i watched when i recently upgraded to 6.1 surround sound.

When i upgrade to a 16x9 tv in a few months i think the first thing i will watch will probably be Episodes I and II to get ready for III coming out.

I think the first movie I watched when I got my surround sound system this past christmas was the matrix, which conincidentally was my first ever dvd.

I like to use one of the LOTR titles or Top Gun...

however, the first DVD I used to check out my most recent DVD player was Iron Giant, since animated titles can more easily show problems with interlaced/non-interlaced/quality.

It was either "The Matrix" or a boot "Star Wars: A New Hope" with DTS.

I just got my 62" Mitisubishi tv and the first thing I watched was Lord of the Rings Retutn of the King and it was pretty awesome. Bought all the speakers last year at tax time so I was set. Don't remember first movie listened to.

I'm not sure what movie I watched after I got my stereo, that was 4-5 years ago. I got a 62" Mitsubishi in November. The first DVD I watched was Hellboy: Director's Cut.

When I got my 230-W DD 5.1 surround system in early '02, I think the first DVD I tried with it was Star Wars: Episode I.

Sometime in this year, I'd like to upgrade my DD 5.1 system to a DTS 6.1 system. There's a 700-W Yamaha system that I've been eyeing for a few months for around $400 or so.

I remember watching "Plains, Trains, and Automobiles" as the first movie ever on my home theater. Yes, it didn't take "advantage" of the sound and digital picture, but it is one of my favorites. (Especially during Thanksgiving when I purchased the TV).

When I got my first 5.1 sound system back in 2001, I tested it out with Gladiator.

When I got my HDTV in 2003, Star Wars: Episode II was the first movie I watched on it.

(Also when I bought a portable DVD player before going on vacation on year, I bought Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome to watch on it, but I'm not sure if that counts here. :p )

Last summer I finally bought a big-screen HDTV, which had been a dream of mine for some time. Although I'm ashamed to admit it, Rat Race was the first movie I watched on it. The reason: I let my girlfriend pick, and that's what she came up with. I love the film, but I think I'd have chosen a better suited movie.

I decided to pick the next film: Monty Python and the Holy Grail! :)

When I got my new Kenwood 5.1 system, the first movie I watched was Saving Private Ryan.

When I get my projector next month, I plan on christening it with Peckinpah's Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.

If/when I ever get around to getting the plasma TV I've been looking at the first thing "real" thing (after setup/testing) will be the LotR:EE trilogy.

02-22-05, 08:34 AM
I think Toy Story was the first DVD I tried on my 55" Mits....but that was a few years ago. Then I had to adjust my DVD played to Widescreen....oops

I upgraded sound, but I forgot what DVD I watched first. It was probably some 6.1 movie, like Blade 2 or LOTR:EE or SPR:DTS

I got my 61" Sammy Dlp in Oct of 04 and the first DVD I watched on it was Star Trek II TWOK SE. I was a little underwhelmed by the presentation so I then put in Episode One & two as well as LOTR. Needless to say I am a very happy camper. I'll be upgrading to an SVS sub and have yet to determine which disc to use. I'm currently leaning toward the Air Force One SB, but we'll see.
