thanks for the heads up, i get some good deals at these sales. I like that you get to see the cases and check the inserts, unlike at BB.

Some of their boxset prices actually aren't bad, and with this sale it makes some good deals.

I am going back to get:

Band of Brothers $49.99
Deadwood $49.99
Star Trek : Voyager S5 $49.99

I have a membership card for 10% off, so these three will cost $96 including tax.

I plan to keep the BoB, and should be able to sell the other two at Amazon or Half for ~$50 each, thus breaking even or coming out slightly ahead. ( I will probably watch Deadwood first and may end up keeping it too. )

I clear out my local GameStop every time they have this deal. Here's what I got for $109 (including tax) the other day:

The Wire Season 2
Six Feet Under Season 2
Oz Season 4
Northern Exposure Season 2
Dead Like Me Season 1
Arrested Development Season 1

All were in mint condition except for Oz, which is actually in pretty bad shape. Annoying, but for the price, I couldn't pass it up.

The EB closest to me has ridiculous prices on thier dvds. And that is meant in a negative way. I'm talking about a few dollars off from MSRP. Not a good deal here.

You can check inventory at gamestop.com. It looks like one of the stores in Orange, CA has a copy.

Their prices on most individual DVDs is pretty high - the only type I ever buy there are OOP ones, which are priced as though they weren't OOP. I have bought 2 Snow Whites at Gamestop and EB Games for $16-17 and resold for a profit later. I also got Ice Age for $6 with one of the Snow Whites during a buy 1 get 1 50% off sale. The buy 2 get 1 free sale barely makes their individual DVD prices decent - I one time got three decent DVds marked $5.99 each in a B2G1 sale - Falling Down, Blown Away (Tommy Lee Jones), and something else I don't recall.

In any event, their box set prices are pretty good - comparable to the lowest at Half and Amazon, and the B2G1 makes them quite good. They are selling Alias S3 for $29.99 - not a bad price to begin with, with 10% off and B2G1 it is $18.

Went crazy on the box sets tonight - couldn't pass up these prices. Some are to resell on amazon or half, some are for me to keep:

$49.99 price / $30 after 10% off and B1G1:
Deadwood S1
Star Trek TOS S1
Star Trek Voyager S7

$29.99 / $18:
Alias S3
Oz S4
Buffy S7

$24.99 / $15:
Las Vegas S1 (Uncut and Uncensored)
Nip/Tuck S1
Frasier S4

$19.99 / $12:
Oz S3
Frasier S1, S2

Hero $14.99
Casino $12.99 (OOP going for $35+ at Amazon)
Murder One S1 Free (Priced $12.99 - Mislabeled as Murder was the Case, this sells for $35+ at Amazon - the guy working there said it wasn't in the system so they just matched as best they could)

For good measure I headed over to Blockbuster and got another Alias S3 for 2/$20.

It was a pretty good day

The EBs in my area have really cut back on their DVD inventory in the last few months, so I don't even count bother with them for the most part. Only 1 store out of about 8 has more than a handful of DVDs.

The thing is that today I went to EB Games in a nearby mall during my lunch break and they had the promo all over the place, but when I went to pay for the items (6 DVDs)they said the promotion ended last Sunday. I told them that they should have taken down the signs that said all over the place "Buy 2 get 1 free" but the guy at the counter said it wasn't their job. I took a picture of the store and the signs with my phone camera and I'm reporting them to the Better Business Bureau since they didn't want to honor their promotion. To add insult to injury, I bough a copy of Road to Perdition for $7.99 and when I come home I find that it is a bootleg. How the hell do they sell bootlegs!!!?

That's odd - the EB ames here have the sale going on through the end of the month, I think - and although they have taken the signs down, gamestops which are located near an EB Games are also continuing the special - at least, around here.

An EB Games (NOT Gamestop as I originally posted) employee told me that the company recalled nearly all of their used DVDs, and will be selling them through a different company. Apparently, the one store ignored the recall order and still has at least 50-60 DVDs.

That Game Stop story can't be true - there are no less than 6 Game Stops in my local area that still sell DVD's.

Stores in this area still have their dvd's and are still accepting trades for the upcoming releases. (no new ones, just the ones already stated)

An employee from EB Games I visited today told me the same thing. He said that most trade-in DVDs are going to be given to some company in the states that is going to resell them. In the meantime he was nice enough to give me a list of their entire DVD inventory that they had in their storage room so i could select the one that I wanted to buy. I found a brand new Citizen Kane, Amadeus and the Out of Print Disney's Peter Pan.

Stopped by my local EB Games and took advantage of this deal for the 2nd time in two weeks...

(BTW - You get an extra 10% off if you have an EB Edge Card -- it costs $5/yr to get one but could pay for itself on your first visit if you're buying boxsets)

No boxsets in stock (they had a Nightmare on Elm Street Collection that was going out as I left, but I wouldn't have bought that anyway). Here's what I got:

Unbreakable (Vista series) $9.99 - $1.00 = $8.99
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones WS $9.99 - $1.00 = $8.99
Cast Away 2-Disc Edition $0.00

Total = $17.98 + tax

This won't help you now -- but by law they are required to give you the price on the sign whether the sale is over or not. You probably should have talked to a manger. You may want to try contacting their corporate HQ too.
