Mel Brooks films on DVD
I wanted to make a list of the Mel Brooks films on DVD right now, and what will hopefully arrive someday. So far, we have:
- The Critic (1963)This Academy Award-winning animated short is only 4 minutes long, and could easily be included as an extra on another title.
Get Smart (1965 - TV Series) - I would love to see this on DVD. - The Producers (1968) - The SE is OOP (although findable?,) leaving a Movie Only version.
- The Twelve Chairs (1970) - This appears to have been OOP for quite a while.
- Shinbone Alley (1971) - Mel has writing credits for this? It sounds like an interesting animation, but no DVD yet.
- Blazing Saddles (1974) - The 30th Anniversary SE is available, and has been long awaited!
- Young Frankenstein (1974) - The SE appears to be the only version widely available, although there was an older version.
- When Things Were Rotten (1975 - TV Series) - This sounds like a great TV show that Mel helped to create, with no sign of a DVD.
- Silent Movie (1976) - DVD=NON!
- High Anxiety (1977) - This is due
on 03/29/2005!It looks like this has been pushed back, but that could be for a SE! - History of the World: Part I (1981) - AFAIK, this is a non-anamorphic disc, with few special features. In my opinion, this needs a SE.
- The 2000 Year Old Man (1982 - TV) - The DVD is bare-bones, but what do you need for a 26 minute show?
- To Be or Not to Be (1983) - Is this a DVD I see before me? Apparently not.
- An Audience with Mel Brooks (1983 - TV) - This could be released as an extra on a To Be... disc (hint, hint!)
- Spaceballs (1987) - A new 2-disc SE is on the way!
- The Nutt House (1989 - TV Series) - A short-lived remake of Fawlty Towers, not available on DVD.
- Life Stinks (1991) - Available on DVD, with anamorphic WS and a featurette.
- Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) - The U.K. and Germany get this on DVD, so why not the USA??
- Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) - This is in Anamorphic Widescreen, with a commentary and trailer.
- Svitati (1999 - aka Screw Loose) - This budget disc from director Ezio Greggio is anamorphic, with bios and trailers.

I really dug the list, though; let's petition for 'When Things Were Rotten'. I've never seen it, I'm just curious.

I love Mel's movies as well and was able to get The Twelve Chairs and the Producers SE on DVD when they came out.
Robin Hood Men in Tights is the one I'm really looking forward to.

My favorite of all the Mel Brooks films. One of my first DVD purchases. Definitely needs an upgrade.

A good release of this would be the fulfillment of one of my greatest long-time "wants".

"High Anxiety -- whenever you're near,
High Anxiety -- it's you that I fear.
My heart's afraid to fly, it's crashed before.
But then you take my hand, and my heart starts to soar
Once more. . . Key change!
High Anxiety -- it's always the same.
High Anxiety -- it's you that I blame.
It's very clear to me, I've got to give in!
High Anxiety --
-- and remember, kids, be good to your folks - they've
been good to you --
-- you win!"

I will add it to the list, maybe it could be included as an extra on another title.

From the Digital Bits Rumor Mill:
Does anyone know the other titles rumored? Based on random posts here at DVD Talk, I believe one could be Sillent Movie, but I am not certain.
A lot of you have also been asking about the Mel Brooks promotion that Fox had planned for March (High Anxiety was among the titles expected). As we mentioned the other day, this has been delayed indefinitely. The reason apparently is that Fox wants to really give these films the attention they deserve on DVD. Special editions are planned, they're just going to take some time to realize.

IGN.com had a story back at the begining of the month that a Mel Brooks box set annoucement could come around August. And the best part is that Men In Tights (My favorite Brooks film) should FINALLY be released on that set. And I'm hoping that it would be released as a stand alone disc as well, but I would buy the box set just for MIT.
