Why are shows that play 10x a day more expensive?

i've been wondering...

Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Cheers are just 3 tv shows that play 4-6 times a day on a few networks (seinfeld airs 6 times a day on TBS i believe) yet their MSRP are alot higher than other tv dvd shows..

why is that? the only one i can think of that airs that much that is reasonably priced is Friends...

Economics 101 : Supply and Demand. Shows that play 10 times a day are more popular and therefore are able to ask and recieve a higher price than less popular ones. In addition, Seinfeld sets had some bonus features that probably drove up the cost somewhat (but mainly they knew if they asked for a $49.99 MSRP, they'd still sell tons of copies).

Some of the stars of these shows also get a cut of the profits from the DVD sales so that is another main reason for the price difference on some shows (e.g. The X-Files).

TV shows in general are pretty much the same price. I really don't see why some would seem more expensive than others.

Yep. Also, the Star Treks (which don't play everyday anymore) the HBO shows - those are the most expensive.

I recently paid $29.99 for Seinfeld, $29.99 for Cheers, $29.99 for Everybody Loves Raymond and $29.99 for Friends. Maybe you're shopping at the wrong stores on the wrong days.

Gizmo, i assume you're talking about the really high prices previously listed and not the ones I mentioned, since Suncoast and FYE are consisently the HIGHEST PRICED stores around. I'm stunned everyday that I wake up to find them still in business.

other things factor in for that one:

It was released at the beginning of dvds when prices for sets were very high. The stars get a large chunk of the action in sales also.
